Hey, you bastards! Even coloring books need a home. I can't wait to see the Presidential Veto Crayon. I heard it took them 5 years to figure out a formulation that would prevent Dubya from eating it.

Those of us who have been paying attention long enough know that Nixon was clearly the first troll President.

He's the American version of Thatcher.

/or Taft. But he may have been an actual troll.

Will it include the crayons as well as his books? I mean, book.

This is going to be the first presidential library featuring books on tape.  Seems Laura would take the daily briefing and put them on tape so W could listen while clearing brush.

That book will be in a display cube, lit like the Hope Diamond at the Smithsonian, accompanied by a plaque lauding the brave response of Bush on 9/11. Mark my words. . . .

Well, Mr. former President, I, for one, applaud your efforts on completing your presidential library. I'm sure it will be a popular destination for the curious, George.

The library is going to fall in to disrepair as millions of dollars are spent trying to fix it up even though the foundation is messed up and the building is on the verge of collapse. Six years from now, the surrounding community is going to be so fed up that the library employees would rather cut their losses and leave the locals to try and fix things.

Don't worry too much. My guess is you'll see the occasional busload of bored 4th graders, and not much else. And once in a while maybe a public lecture by a revisionist historian with an axe to grind, but I doubt that's gonna cause traffic jams.

Tightening diesel exhaust standards was a good thing, as was that marine sanctuary in the Pacific. Credit's due for those.

Trouble is his farkups were so numerous and colossal, there's not much left that's both good and memorable.

Positive credit for what? About the only good thing that came of his presidency was increased AIDS relief funding for Africa.

So, Bush did do good things during his presidency, just not anything good for any actual average Americans.

I swung by it on the way to work one morning, just to see how it was going. It has its own parking lot, and I doubt it will ever be full. It's on SMU campus, so if people need to find a book there are actual libraries very nearby.

I'm gonna go just so I can deuce in it sometime. It's a small act of defiance, but I do what I can.

AH-hum.
The George W. Bush administration did a lot to combat AIDS in Africa. Many more people had access to retroviral medicines than would have had he not been president.

There. Not hard.

Really quite good, and timely.  A rare incisive political cartoon- thanks for hotlinking.

Also I think it is interesting that there is no Republican leader to caricature (as opposed to Obama).  In olden days that would at least be Gingrich, but nobody is kidding anyone that Boehner is some kind of Republican leader.  Romney?  Nope.  Christie?  Easy to caricature but wasn't invited to the most recent Gathering of the Pubbalos. Who will ascend?  I think Christie because of the "easy to caricature" thing.

Unfortunately, PEPFAR came with a price tag - the Bush Administration was infested by Evangelical Christianity, and organizations like The Fellowship tagged along to create a new wave of homophobia in Africa.  And of course social conservatives in Congress weren't going to give that money without making sure they disproportionately emphasized abstinence and faithfulness programs.

I'm also kinda wondering who wins between business and guns. I think it'll be a Harlem Globetrotters game where business pretends to lose, but they don't care because they make out either way.

FTFA: A key mission of the center will be the privately funded Bush Policy Institute, which will be "committed to serious, independent research aimed at generating practical solutions to important public policy problems."

The institute will focus on education, global health, freedom and economic growth.

"It will preserve for history the important decisions made by President Bush during his presidency and will embody and carry on the values of President and Mrs. Bush," Langdale has said.

It's good they have this. For now on when faced with difficult problems, future presidents can call upon the "Bush Policy Institute" to know exactly what not to do in any given situtaion.
