Theaetetus: jehovahs witness protection: NEWSFLASH: Rapes in Portland increase by 500%.

NEWSFLASH: if the only thing that prevents you from raping someone is that they're not in the bathroom stall next to you, then you're the one with the problem.

No shiat dumbass.

Transgender Grant High School student Scott Morrison says he stopped drinking water at one point so he wouldn't have to choose between gender-specific bathrooms.

Probably should be staying at home and getting home schooled if your issues are that severe in the first place.

Many (most?) bathrooms in European companies are just that, bathrooms (toilets).  They are gender-neutral and there is no problem with safety or privacy.  The common area is a large bathroom with counters and sinks and it is surrounded with private (PRIVATE) toilet rooms.  I mean they are complete rooms with doors that close and lock and not the stupid stalls we have here where there is a 16" gap from the floor to the privacy  wall.  They are really private closeable, lockable rooms with a toilet or a hole in the ground but there are no "I see your underwear around your ankles" gaps.

I actually had a kid try to reach under the stall wall at an airport loo and steal my wallet, I almost (or maybe did) break his wrist/elbow, I was pissed but realized he was just a kid and let go, he ran like h3ll.

To continue, I had to use a stool in an Australian park where the walls went to the ground but the tops were only about 5 ft high.  Their normal bathrooms were European but these park loos were a different experience.  I was sitting and two young female things walked by and said hi.  I said hi back and tried to get the log rolling again, took a while but happened (I know too much).

Ah America, so wonderful, so weird.

Apparently, you have never been in a woman's bathroom.

We were in Barnes & Noble the other day, and I went to the bathroom.  It was horrifying.  I cleaned as best as I could to make it useable, and met back up with my boyfriend who was talking to the cashier about the DVD he was buying.  He said to me, "damn, you looked like you wanted to kill her, nice green eyes" and I said, "seriously, no.  I was still traumatized and trying to figure out how there was not only pee on the toilet seat and the floor, but on the WALLS of the bathroom.  There. Was. Pee. On. The. Walls.  Unless cashier chick did it, I had no thoughts of her whatsoever."  I still have no idea how that all happened, because as he said, "you chicks don't even have the equipment to do that."  Me: "YES I KNOW. THAT IS WHY I AM TRAUMATIZED."

While I am sure not all of us are (because I know I am not) most women are DISGUSTINGLY FILTHY in public bathrooms.

Wait until you see a Mexican portajon. Then you will have seen horror. The memories do not fade.

I was in Tanzania and a lot of their public restrooms look like this:

God help you if you need to take a dump.

dave2198: Yeah, those days were the best... when confused teenagers put on a fake face to get through school everyday, only to hang themselves in the bathroom before graduation.

As this whole new-age shiny happy participation trend has grown (from 2000 on) suicide rates among kids has steadily increased.

I really don't see how the way kids are growing up today prepares them for the real world.  One of the few things that I learned from a sports coach growing up was there are two things that sports help prepare you for in life:  Winning and losing.  To be successful at life you need to know how win with grace and lose with dignity, because over the course of your life you will do plenty of both.

//Even kids realize how much of a joke some of this stuff is.  Ask any 3rd grader that just finished a soccer game.  They might not know the exact score, but they will know if they won or lost.

OK OK maybe "only a few kids left behind" ?

Srsly.  Dress it up like a boy or girl, and stick to it.

Heck yah.  Back in the day, we just dealt with it.  No crying about it.  We didn't have a single suicide my entire school career.  We won or lost sports game and the winners shook hands with the losers and said 'good game'.   When the winners got a trophy, the other team was expected to stick around to watch and clap.  It hurt like hell, but you saw what you wanted and worked to get better.

I'm sure you've seen similar anecdotes, but it's usually the Women's restrooms that are the...craziest.

Shouldn't the real story be that we're still wasting resources by implementing gender discrimination in public building design? Why are we still building gender-specific bathrooms in the first place? We outlawed discrimination by race in schools like 60 years ago; how is "separate but equal" still valid for gender?

NEWSFLASH: Portland highschooler goes on killing spree after being dubbed Stevie Small Sack by all the girls in his class. If you'll recall this is the same highschool where just two weeks ago a 15 year old female student, Debbie Diarrhea, also went on a killing spree.

FTA - Others, while supporting the change, also worry that equating single-stall unisex restrooms with the transgender population can be stigmatizing. Jenn Burleton, the executive director of TransActive, said most transgender students simply want to use the restroom of their identified gender.

Sooo... they still aren't satisfied?

Yeah my highschool self would have just been as disgusting as possible to the seats. Or I can see the helpless girl in a stall getting the old fart spray treatment, or worse in the age of camera phones

Yes, I'm sure today's youth suicide rate is entirely caused by an inability to lose soccer games gracefully. It couldn't have anything to do with increasingly vicious bullies gaining constant access to their victims via smartphones and internet, or the growing number of emotionally distant and fragmented families, or the pressure to prepare for university beginning in elementary school to avoid being labelled failures by parents who demand their little boy/or girl graduates top of their class and goes to Harvard so they can earn their love.

Sounds like we need to tell the kids how much harder they have it today then show some videos in school about cutting and how much attention you can get by doing it.

also sounds like you're projecting, lean back on this couch and tell me about your parents.

Danish friend just coming out of the bathroom with a disgusted look on his face:
"What is wrong with people here?! Why would you design a toilet like that?! In Denmark all toilets stalls are fully enclosed, not like here! I don't want to listen to somebody else farting and grunting!!"

Seriously though, how much extra would it cost for those few inches of board on the bottom and the top?

So, there are some people who might feel uncomfortable using a certain bathroom. Just wait until they are seen coming and going from the "different" bathroom. How comfortable is that going to be?

You really missed the point, didn't you? You also seem to assume I'm of the same generation as the youths you are talking about, which I find amusing. Erroneous assumptions aside, your logic appears to be that children and teens today are harming and killing themselves essentially because they are being given too much assistance or are emotionally weak. If that is really what you are suggesting, I recommend you do a little research into the issues surrounding youth suicide. If you glance at any medical, sociological or psychological journal you will realize that the problem is a little more complex than you imagine, and that suicide is statistically strongly correlated with familial neglect, abuse, peer bullying and other life stressors. Somehow your response makes me doubt you are interested in the scientific perspective, though I could be wrong.

Ya know what?  Don't bother.  As we see by the end of TFA, they did it wrong and the trans community is still upset.

remus: Somehow, I started school in the 70's and graduated High School in the 80's and, by some amazing luck, manged to do it without gender neutral bathrooms, no score taking soccer, "new math", etc.  We had peanut butter sandwiches, played dodge ball, didn't take anti-bully courses, and by some magic manged to make it through.

This new age silliness is nuts.  Boys go to the boys room, girls go to the girls room, boys try to drill a hole in the girls locker room, etc.  That's the way it was meant to be.  If you're confused about your gender, rub some dirt on it and get back into the game.  And stay off my lawn.

maram500: I remember when I was in junior high our male restrooms had stalls with no doors. More, the stall walls came up to about three feet or so. So anyone doing a poo next to you could easily be seen with their pants down. I'm sure the gay kids loved it, but holy crap I only used the handicapped stall for anything.

Perhaps the German gay kids... But, I rather suspect most people, gay or straight, aren't exactly turned on by the sight of someone taking a dump...

If you think bullies are worse today you're crazy. Yes they can bully on social media, but would you rather have someone call you a name on Facebook or stick your head in the toilet?

You're making the association of social media bullying with increased suicide rates. I counter with it is more due to the coddling of kids who don't learn to deal with failure and disappointment.

Gender neutral bathrooms always made more sense to me anyway. Toilets work equally well for men and women.
