And we fully expect you to ignore several dozen dead bodies, because hey why interrupt your wild west fantasies eh?

giltric - we've seen how effective the war on drugs as been - with the fed throwing millions of dollars over the course of decades to stop drug traffic/use

what makes you think that if the Fed can't control a population of stoners they could ever confiscate the weapons of adult gun owners?

WhyteRaven74: Giltric: And you would be falling over yourself making excuses for the blood on their hands if they came from a different socio-economic bakground like every bleeding heart.

You really are a piece of work, you don't give a damn how many are killed, you don't. Not so long as you can clutch your precious little piece of metal substitute for any sense of security you might otherwise have. You're safe, or so you tell yourself, and if someone else dies, fark them, it's their fault.

More are saved by firearms than killed. Even by the lowball estimates of the gun control groups in regards to defensive gun use.

I've used my firearm twice in a defensive situation, so yes it does make me more secure and safe. I want to have an advantage over the criminals just like cops do so I carry a firearm.

Dozens? Thats it? In a country of 360 some million?

Sometimes freedom is messy.

Just like the freedom of speech and little girls that hang themselves over things said online.

Do you have to enter your name and address into some database when you are a stoner? That would give the cops a place to start if they really wanted to prosecute the war on drugs.....wouldn't it?

I am not entirely comfortable knowing my freedom is being paid for by the bodies of children who reportedly were dismembered by gunfire by someone who i've never met.

"messy" seems a tad grotesque when i think of what this sort of freedom you think this is since my most valued freedoms are largely encoded into law already

dave2198: pedrop357: dave2198: pedrop357: Uncle Pooky: pedrop357: No right is as restricted as the right to bear arms

Sorry that you have to fill out extra paperwork in order to own something that its entire purpose is to destroy and kill.

Well I'm glad you're sorry.  You didn't really address the point that the 2nd amendment is more restricted than any other right, nor do you seem to understand that it explicitly protects the right to own things that can be used to destroy or kill.

but not every single thing that can destroy or kill. You can bear arms without owning assault rifles. banning them does nothing to infringe on your rights, if you are still allowed to carry other arms.

So the government can ban you from fark.com and that's not a 1st amendment violation because you can post at other sites?

The government regulates broadcast airwaves through the FCC, and owners are prohibited from saying certain things or broadcasting into specific areas. Their rights are restricted and regulated.

Yet we still have free speech.

Oh, you're assuming all pro gun people don't have qualms with censorship? I would do away with content censorship in a second

The problem with gun control is that nobody is fooled by gun gun control advocates.  Gun control advocates do a very shiatty job of pretending to be anything other than gun abolitionists.  Regardless of how hard they work on their talking points its just too obvious that they want to take your great grand fathers muzzle loading fowling piece from you and smelt it down into something resembling a pointy egg beater used for aborting christian fetuses.  Or a probe used to search the anal cavity of brown people at airports.  Take your pick.  The fact of the matter is that people know that government power = abuse of power and nobody wants more abuse.

Abusing so-called "innocent" lists makes people paranoid about bothering with following the rules.  If someone's smoking meth it's one thing, but someone smoking pot because of back pain doesn't mean they're someone who shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun.

The kind of people willing to follow the rules and get a CCW and a medical marijuana card aren't the type I worry about shooting a place up.

So, have I been indirectly called Jethro, Cletus, a Rapeublican, implied to be complicit in the passing of the Patriot Act, implied to be complicit in child murder, or told to "die in a barricade situation after killing my family" (paraphrased)? You know who you are among the people I know as the Fark community and you should be ashamed of yourselves. Not because your concerns are misplaced, oh no. Murder and violent crime are tragic and despicable. No, you should be ashamed because you have applied the exact same kind of bigotry you likely denounce when it is aimed at homosexuals, skin colors, and cultures among whatever other groups can be thought up. And no, I'm not playing the victim, and no it's not a strawman. You demean me completely out of hand because I own an object which may be used or misused at my whim, yet you default into demonizing me because of how it has been misused by people other than and completely unrelated to me. That's bullshiat, and deep down you know it. It is incredibly naive and unfair of me, but dammit Fark, I expect better of you.

No one is going to take your guns. You can point to Feinstein or pluck out a few anecdotes of fringe leftists, but it doesn't change the fact that you are screaming at imaginary terrors.

I am a gun owner in California. Even here, a plethora of self-defense options available to basically everyone. I can't even begin to understand what people like you are afraid of. Then again, I've come across far too many people that are surprised that I own guns in CA because the shiat they hear from the NRA/Limbaugh.

We were prohibited by law under insanely harsh penalties (including mandatory minimum sentencing laws), from getting anywhere near that school.  The cops could though, but they have a United States Supreme Court decision that says they have no duty to protect them.  Its their job, but it doesn't matter how bad they suck at it. Woe be the motherfarker that does it for them.

Permit? Only some places force your name on a list for later confiscation. By law the 4473s are thrown out within a couple weeks in order to prevent the government from building a database of firearms owners IIRC.

I wonder how successful the federal government would be in aquiring peoples medical information for targeted harassment of potheads....I mean medical marijuana users. I wonder if people and perhaps groups would defend their right to keep their medical history private.

What about laws restricting containers designed to be concealed, burglar resistant doors/windows, encryption software, etc. all of which can be used to evade lawfully authorized searches

Again, the first isn't "well-regulated" and speech doesn't generally kill people.

Irrelevant.  The right explicitly protects the right to keep and bear items that can be used to injure or kill.  You'd have to be a moron to think that the idea that arms were deadly somehow escaped those drafting the constitution.

So because the GOVERNMENT (of 300 years ago) says that blowing someone's head off is the same as just telling them off, it must be true? I always thought that you conservatives didn't trust government?

They've been largely ignored by your side too, except when you stack them up and use them as a pulpit. Very little has been proposed by gun control advocates that would actually lessen the body count. So therefore we question the purpose of what you folks do propose, and what it would accomplish. We mention mental health, but suddenly we're all shot down because every person to enjoy gun ownership is a republican and we don't actually want to see public resources spent on that, it's just a diversion while we clean out your 401k's, or some such bullshiat.
