I've been inspired by Russian car cam videos where someone gets hit/gets pissed off at a bad driver and they go to town on that driver's car with a baseball bat. I'm a little apprehensive of actually doing it though because I have a lot of rage built up with stupid drivers.

In the last 5 days (just the highlights)...

- I've been sideswiped by a girl on her cellphone. Merged into me with a car she just bought ($1,900 damage to my car)
- A truck in front of me pulled up to a red light, looked both ways, and then drove through the light while it was still red. Further down the road he would move over and take up both lanes if a car was turning in front of him. This action would force people over outside the lane they were traveling in. He also wasn't using turn signals anywhere as we made our way through town.
- Someone pulled out of a parking lot without looking in the direction I was coming from and I had just enough time to come to a screeching halt
- There was a red light at a stop light that was covered in snow,  but the green/yellow lights weren't covered and also weren't lit up. The guy in front of me decided he would drive straight through anyways at 45 mph. Even though there was cross traffic (since the East/Westbound road had the green light) Us being North bound had a red light at that time. He came inches from getting t-boned.
- Multiple issues at 4 ways stops, the worst is tied between 2 guys. One that gunned it across the 4 way out of turn as I approached the middle. The other instance was a guy that pulled up after me and started to slow down but then drove through. What was his rush? I don't know but he stopped at the car wash 2 blocks down the road from that 4 way.

I used to love driving but in the last 2 years of living in this new town I've come to loathe it.

To be fair, after my car got rear-ended and totaled last summer and the ensuing PITA that it was (plus the literal pain in my neck), I'd be tempted to react this way if it ever happens again... still owe three grand on the replacement. Apparently you should take the insurance payout and be grateful, god forbid you buy the same kind of car and try to get the jackhole to cover the difference.

Oh, I should add before people get on my case about me somehow causing the accident... I was stopped and waiting for oncoming opposing traffic to pass me so I could get on the highway. Dude barreled right in to me with no warning and knocked me (almost) into said oncoming traffic. Then he tried to get out of the piddly ticket they issued for 'following too closely', even though he was no where near me when I stopped. You better believe I testified against him.

I've been rear ended in a similar manner. On a hwy through town at a stop light, the guy that ran into me totaled his truck, he hit me with enough force to push me into the vehicle in front of me, and that force carried both of us into the car in front of him. The driver claimed he dropped some work tools in the floorboard and tried to pick them up. (he had a farking passenger that could have done that)

I took what the insurance offered although I thought about taking it up with a lawyer. We ended up getting them to pay $9k for repairs, the medical expenses, $3.5k for my whiplash, and $400 for my wife's concussion, our children didn't get anything. One thing I've learned from this accident is to never play down your injuries if you are the victim in a car wreck with injuries.

Unfortunately NY is a 'no fault' insurance state, meaning my insurance paid for everything immediate, and then went after his. Also this meant that there was no extra settlement for vehicle price differences, which is AWESOME in the post-cash-for-clunkers world where a nice used car costs as much as it did four years ago, if not MORE. I consulted with a lawyer I'd actually interviewed with for a job, which was really nice of them since they remembered me, but they confirmed what I'd researched ahead of time. le sigh.

If your representatives vote in favor of 'no fault' insurance laws, VOTE THEM OUT.

Wow! I was not aware that such nonsense existed. I live in Missouri so I've had the luxury of dealing with everything at fault wise. Does that mean your insurance premiums will go up regardless of who caused the accident? That also seems like it would be a pain in the ass if you have a great insurance company and the other person has a shady one. I've been involved in 3 accidents here but my insurance company only knows of the first one since I called them to ask about what I should do. They documented it but that was it. The other two I've dealt directly with the at fault person's insurance co. now that I know the ropes.

/After the most recent accident I was involved in I've been interested in investing in a dash + rear cam just to back up my side of the story for police and insurance purposes.

Actually, no-fault is OK - just OK - if you have a good company and the other driver has a shady one. That's the ONLY time it's just OK. It's expensive, and you are left with the necessity of suing your OWN insurance company if they rip you off.
Colorado went to "at fault" 10 years ago. Never been happier.

Me too. Unless I am going to/from work (military base), I usually have a gun on me. I don't have a 'car gun', as I think it would be irresponsible to leave a gun in there where someone could break in and take it.

Have never shot anyone in anger.

Fortunately, no, the insurance premiums don't go up just because you were in an accident. Someone mentioned recently they thought all the claims I've made in the last year would do that (it's BIZARRE how many things have happened to my vehicles lately). I just paid my insurance for the next six months, and it was about the same, possibly cheaper even. State Farm is pretty good as long as you keep a clean record.
