This story contains little teasers of all sorts o' crazy and I wish to hear more. Birth mom? Crazy Auntie? Foiled adoptive mom? Was the teen the birth mom? Did she promise the baby to Crazy Lady but then give it to the adoptive parents instead? Whose car was it? Who was going in the trash bags?

"As the teen drove on the Ben Franklin Bridge, she saw a police cruiser parked on the shoulder. She purposely hit it and jumped out to tell the officer what had happened."

Why would she have to hit the cruiser? Why isn't the story:

"she saw a police cruiser parked on the shoulder. She pulled over and jumped out to tell the officer what had happened. "

Because that's not dramatic enough. This is a teenage girl we're talking about.

Floribet had a gun. Maybe she swerved and whacked the cop car to stun Floribet enough to drop the gun so she could jump out and run to the cop car.

Admit it. This is gonna be the only chance you ever have to deliberately ram a cop car and be praised for it.

Wouldn't you?

If you just jump out of your car and start running at a cop, you might get shot by the cop.

If you just jump out of your car and start running at a cop, you might get shot by the cop.

And if you stay in the car with a kidnapper, you will probably get a gun at your temple or a knife to your throat in the best scenario.

Pick the less evil one.

Based on what the article gives, the impression I got is that Floribert wanted to go get her kid back, but she had no way of getting to where she needed to be, so she pointed a gun at the first person she saw who had a driver's licence.  Who the car belongs to is anyone's guess.

There's a link to another story in the middle of this one.  The teen and the crazy lady knew each other, met in the teen's home town regarding this baby, and then the kidnapping happened.  Still not sure who the car belongs to...or the baby, for that matter.  It basically cleared up one tiny iota of confusion.

My friend got carjacked, guy with a knife got in at a light at 2:00 am one night and told him to drive.  They came to an intersection with a cop car and the guy told my friend to be cool.  My friend floored it through a red light, honking his horn like crazy.  Cops got the guy and my friend got away just fine, but he was lucky.

2013-03-25 07:28:58 PM
Yes, true, but it will still get you a Fark headline. Inevitably, they will charge one of these kidnappees for the cost of the car and then we'll get another Fark headline.

Fark headlines are like weddings:  each one contains in it the seeds of further destruction.

Say that to yourself emphatically. Sounds good, doesn't it? And it really sounds great in the voice of the Reverend Billy Graham. Because I just did it that way.

Could have gotten a twichy cop that was trained to 'double-tap' in threat scenarios. Then the headline would have been far more interesting.

Xanadone: Can we have a New Jersey tag?  Please?

No! If you give one to New Jersey, you'll have to give one to each of the States. And then the Canadians will whine until they get one for each of the Provinces and Territories. And then the British will want tags that say cryptic things like Hants. and Ox. and Rutland. None of which exist any more, except for Rutland, ironically, because it was the first to go.

Florida is enough. In fact, it is more than enough. Eventually it will be so riddled with curvy canals and fake waterfront property surrounded by shallow ditches that it will collapse into the Ocean. Until then, one Florida is plenty for both Americans and Canadians.

Did the girl know that?  A lot of those airsoft guns look frighteningly realistic, especially to someone who might not have much experience with guns.

The girl did the smart thing here: she created a diversion with the collision, then ran for it.
