Out of 141 countries, the U.S. has the 4th-highest degree of wealth inequality in the world, trailing only Russia, Ukraine, and Lebanon.

Woo hoo!!  Suck it Lebanon!!

They used some of the money to try to kill renewable energy standards around the country.

So if they use the money in a way you like it's cool?

For every one dollar of assets owned by a single black or Hispanic woman, a member of the Forbes 400 has over forty million dollars.

WOW

Wealth inequality is okay be me.
The term itself is laughable.

Pro tip: worry more about your own bank account, and less about other peoples'.

. . . Subby omits the likely reality the "can of soup" was paid for with tax dollars, while the "mansion and a yacht" were paid for with hard work and determination.

Only if a single minority mother of 9 on the dole owned a mansion and yacht.

Solution:

Buy a hat that comes with a free bowl of soup.

The Three Rules of Life:

Rule 1 - Life's not fair.
Rule 2 - There's nothing you can do, no law you can pass, no tax you can collect, that will ever change Rule 1.
Rule 3 - If you don't like Rule 2, see Rule 1.

Tell me about it.  If they would only work several million times harder than they currently do, they could be owning huge yachts and such.

So... more tax cuts for the wealthy?

15% is just too much to pay for parasitic capital gains, we need to drop it to zero.

My fav statistic: For every homeless person in the U.S. right now, there are 24 empty houses.

And that list points out why I'm okay with being as poor as I am and having $1,000 in the stock market. If you wanna be rich, act like the rich!

No, because then wealth inequality would be permanent.

White knight them all you want - you're not one of them. You never will be. You never could be. They don't want you.

We have enough wealth in this country for everybody to be okay. Why shouldn't I worry that there are so many people who are living paycheck to paycheck, and so many who aren't even doing as well as that?

Or if they stopped blowing all their welfare money on soup! Especially the women!

Meanwhile, here in the middle class, I have neither cans of soup nor mansion or yacht.

Admittedly I prefer to cook soup from scratch, or at best a starter kit, so I don't keep cans of soup around.

I suppose if I were not so bootstrappy, I might sink so low as to buy a can of Progresso or Campbells or something, just to have on hand.

You know, on second thought, maybe that's not a bad idea.

I didn't read the article, but I believe this shows that our country is just overpopulated.  Statistics only will show what the researcher is trying to prove.  It is a terrific way to blind the public of what is the underlying problem truly is.

Yes, I'll bet the negotiation for the tiny salary and golden parachute at the expense of workers and shareholders did take a lot of hard work and determination.

Because life isn't fair, nor is it meant to be fair, nor will it ever be fair. Why stop at worrying about people in this country? Why not worry about Mexico and Canada?

What's your cut off for how fair human life should be?

2013-03-25 06:06:00 PM
We better fix this and fast.

Otherwise, well... history has plenty of examples of what happens if massive wealth inequalities aren't mitigated in a timely manner.

There's only one solution to this terrible problem.  Single black and Hispanic women need to find eligible bachelors in the Forbes 400 and marry them.

Well, in the real world, where inequality is through the roof, we're all lucky enough to get to do both!

Oh cool, a crew of people that do nothing but whine about paying taxes will remind us that life isn't fair, with no hint of irony.

If you support democracy, you cannot support this.

No, it's just not possible.

We would like progressive tax structures that mitigate the negative effects of a massive wealth inequality though.

Bread and circuses only distract people for so long (usually until the bread runs out).

More or less. Human life will always be farked up. Taking care of you and yours, and if you have the money and ability, help out others if you see fit. But 'demanding wealth equality' is just silly.

BarkingUnicorn: No, because then wealth inequality would be permanent.

They say that true socialism creates a permanent underclass, but that's only true if you believe in numbers and facts and stuff. And this is Fark, where numbers, facts, and stuff have no place in any reasonable discussion.
