Voiceofreason01: "Coyoteinfested?" Really subby?

/good for her

Yeah, coyotes scare me less than little old ladies.... The rest of it is very impressive, though. I'm gonna have to one-up this girl and roll my car when my daughter's 7, so she can be cooler. Otherwise, this girl is going to wear the "Impressive" crown for quite awhile. I hope she doesn't end up blaming herself in the long run for not getting help in time, it's a sad side effect of tragedies like this. I blamed myself for years for my mother's death, but would not have been able to actually do anything, it took a long time to not feel at least partly responsible.

Kudos to her. That is one brave kid. I just hope that she doesn't blame herself for getting to help too slowly. She doesn't deserve that kind of guilt.

/would send her a card or something to commend her bravery if I could

If she isn't "legally here", I'd sponsor her. Better her than people like "ultraholland", "LemSkoorb", or "Bullroarer_Took".

Acton is a small town tucked in the mountains between Los Angeles and the Mojave Desert.

The Long 15? That kid is pretty brave.

BGates: 40 ain't cold and coyotes are basically harmless.

40 is cold in Southern California, and the coyotes down here will eat anything that can't get away from them.

The same kind of incident happened to the daughter of a good friend of mine. He was splitting custody with the girl's mother, and both parents were driving from their respective homes to meet in the middle in Barstow, where he'd pick up his daughter for a few weeks. Unfortunately, she never arrived... she had fallen asleep at the wheel, and veered off into the desert in the middle of the night.

When the daughter (who must have been about five) woke up, she was alone in her carseat in the wrecked vehicle; Her mom had been thrown from the vehicle and died instantly. Not knowing where her mom was, or what was going on, she eventually freed herself from the wreckage, and started off across the desert to the only light she could see - a gas station in the distance. She hadn't been wearing shoes, and her pajama pants got tangled up in some barbed wire that she had to cross to get there, but she eventually made her way to the gas station, mostly the worse for wear - a lot of scratches and some cactus needles, but no serious injuries. She walked in and told the gas station attendant that her mommy was dead, and they called the police.

She's healthy and happy now, years later. It's amazing that she survived, and I wouldn't wish that horrific journey on my worst enemy.

Much better than that boy from a few weeks ago. He was older and did nothing but hang out at the house all day for a week. Should probably cut off his balls and give them to the girl. She earned them.

She did all she could do - from an earlier article (I dnr this one) he was driving home from a party drunk at 1am and crashed - hope many people let her know nothing about any of this is her fault.

/coyotes usually end up falling off of cliffs or having a cinder block fall on their heads - she was in no danger

Gilligann: She told her family she was saddened to learn her father did not survive the crash.

Saddened?

My father did not survive the crash? I'm saddened to hear this

Did you need to hear the details of her anguish?
Were her tears salty enough to satisfy your taste?

If she needs money from the interweb, now would be the time to bring it up.  Seriously though, what a brave and smart little girl.

One coyote isn't a problem. The problem is, they usually travel in packs of anywhere from 5-10 animals. 5 coyotes could probably take a little girl

Years down the road, perhaps one Christmas morning when she's opening gifts with her family, wrapped up in a cozy blanket next to a warm crackling fire with a nice cup of hot cocoa, I hope she remembers that she just left her father to die in a cold, coyote-infested canyon.
