redmid17: Flab: Is Lolys mentioned on the tv show?

Not that I can recall. They'll have to introduce her or substitute her at some point though.

They have a policy of not introducing people before they're important, and she did longer around in the background quite some time. I'm sure when she comes into play someone'll clue us in that she was caught in that riot.

While I haven't been a fan of George Rail Road Martin since Sand Kings (His finest work), there are several actresses in the HBO miniseries that I could not make that promise about.

Woah, this thread took a dirty turn.

redmid17: Virtual Pariah: iheartscotch: Flab: iheartscotch: He's the one character that; I think; is most honest about who and what he is.

Is father is pretty straightfoward about it too.

(Also, i was kidding about the no spoilers, thing.  There's always someone complaining about spoilers in any thread about anything that happened in the last 20 years)

I 'd say that Tywin; while being straightforward about who and what he is; isn't as compelling as Tyrion. Tyrion, literally, got the short end of the stick; yet, as the story progresses, he hasn't become needlessly cruel or vicious. Not to say that he does not do whatever is required to win; there's a nobility to Tyrion's character that Tywin, Cersi, Jamie and all the rest of the Lannisters lack.

/ but, that's my opinion

If any of the Lannisters could be considered king material it would be Tyrion.
Tywin, Cersi and Joffrey believe in rule by fear.
Jamie at the moment in the show is too quick to have faith in his own arm. He's not all that political.

Tyrion seems to understand how to balance the perks of being royalty with the responsibility inherent to the position.

I think you're a bit harsh on Tywin. Tywin clearly recognizes the value of fear, but he did a great job of ruling the Kingdoms when he was Aerys' hand. I think the line was "the smallfolk cheered twice as hard for Tywin as the king" or something to that effect.

Later on I think Jamie would make a passable king, but I think he'd have a lot of use for a strong...Hand

True, but Aerys was unstable with a passion for wildfire. Compared to that, A stable leader would be cheered.

Aerys wasn't truly mad until the Defiance at Duskendale. Not too long after Tywin quit being his hand because Aerys was paranoid about the Hand being so popular and named his son and heir to the Kingsguard, effectively robbing Tywin of his preferred heir.
