We've got a house a bit like that nearby...

i.cdn.turner.com

This has actually tamed down in the past few years.  You see, we're getting a megachurch right across the street from this guy's property.  Needless to say, they made a big stink about having a nut bar of this particular stripe right across from their precious future megachurch, and told the town council to make the guy get rid of his stuff.  Brought the cops in and everything.

The water in the swimming pool has been tinted blood red. And then there were the reports of a naked man "covered with wheat flour and wearing a zombielike mask"

What his pool may look like..

I wish I had neighbors like this when I was growing up.

This is pretty much what I imagine RON PAUL's house looking like,

2013-03-25 01:17:18 PM
at first i thought this was a compound just outside Springboro OH

Place has cargo containers, razor wire, and steel pylons surrounding it, all of it decorated with rebel flags and "don't tread on me" flags, skulls and "no trespassing" signs...

I wish my neighbors were more eccentric.  Life is more fun when you're not the only fun loving house on the block

One man's art, is another man's crap.
A good HOA would  have prevented this.

Judging by the neighborhood on StreetView, I don't really see what the big deal is...the house across from it has a bunch of tacky shiat on the lawn too.

It's nothing that a little napalm wouldn't fix.

I do not see a gnome or lawn jockey.

A beleaguered Revel, who took up the inherited legal battle when Dumont retired, explains that she has fielded numerous complaints from village parents who are worried about the the effect Ehrmann's outré artistic output may have on their children.

Neighbors: We hate that "art" and we want it taken down.

Authorities: Na. Its ok.

Neighbors: Wait. What we meant to say was won't somebody think of the kids?!

Leave it to the French to show America what needs to be done. This museum should be copied in every major city and tourist attraction in the USA. The world is an ugly place and this man shows that. We sit in our duplexes, driving SUV and sipping from the teat of consumerism. All while burying our heads in the sand. It's time to open your eyes and realize there is an ugliness out there that transcends right, left, liberal, conservative, democrat or republican. If we don't acknowledge it is there, we can do nothing to fix it.

It looks much tamer on Google Maps: 324 Military St., Houlton, ME (the exact address is 314 but 324 gets you closer).

How does one go about acquiring a crashed helicopter?   I was thinking about getting one of those stone pagodo things, until I read this article.

Wow - I'd love to have a 17th century French chateau.  Can't say I'd art it up as this guy has but it's his property - he can do what he wants.

If anyone is driving through Coweta County, GA, on Hwy 16 in the little town of Turin, you can see "Barbie Beach"  - the display changes to match current events in the news.  It's pretty cute and weird.

So you think we sould combat the ugliness by adding to it.

How 'bout no.

We pass Barbie Beach several times a year on our way to see my family in Alabama.  My daughters love it.

I enjoyed my college years too.

But you don't "fix" ugliness in the world by adding more ugly. And disfiguring and defacing something it is not pointing out that there is ugliness in the world - it is making the world uglier than it was before you got there.

rkiller1: Really, the popcorn comes out for a HOA thread?  Y'all understand that HOA rules are disclosed BEFORE you buy the house, right?

Not always. A friend of mine was told that there was no HOA on the house he was buying. Then once he got to the final paperwork, there was a line buried in the middle stating that he agreed to the HOA rules. The homeowner (the HOA chairman) told him that he could see the rules a week later, but if he didn't sign that day he would be officially retracting his offer, and unable to put in any other offer on any house covered by that HOA.

Because this is the logical end result of not having a HOA.

there is a good one?   WHERE?
Warned of the no - zoning laws in parts of NYS, my wife was told, "buy a lot of land and live in the middle of it.  Sure as hell some moron will put his 1958 mobile home 7 dogs and junk yard right next door."
Their idea of Planning and Zoning was "the corns gonna grow- we're gonna cut it, we're gonna plant more."

funny now that we don't live there.

I would have said "sounds good to me" and walked the fark away. That's bait and switch, and in most places, it's illegal.
