From behind?

2013-03-25 10:35:31 AM
They see it as an opportunity because normally embracing gays requires that they pay money.

Is Craigslist involved?

I'm pretty sure that would violate my patent.

Rob Portman sounds like the kind of guy we can all get behind. Its time to reach around the aisle and put our similarities aside...

Embracing gays one foot tap at a time

I guess simple decency isn't a good enough reason for them to stop being dicks.

Rule of Acquisition #285: being anti-gay is good for business.
Rule of Acquisition #286: being pro-gay is good for business.

Somewhere in a Terre Haute truckstop bathroom a senior GOP lawmaker's head just popped up from the lap of a Kevin Michael Richardson lookalike and said "Wait, I can get *paid* for this, too?"

Did anyone make a joke about widening their stance on the issue?

I'm just going to start posting this in every thread about Republicans and gays

And now, representing the Langley Conservatives, Stan Smith.

My fellow Republicans,

last night I kissed a man named Terry. Greg, you were on break at the time.

And I learned something...

We're wrong about gays. I was wrong...and I taught my boy wrong.

It turns out that being gay is not a choice. It's true. Believe me, I tried, and it didn't work. The Log Cabin delegates trying to get in tonight didn't choose to be gay, but they did choose to be Republicans. Even though, as Republicans, we used bashing them as the backbone of our last presidential election, they're still sticking with us. By God, these people love America as much as they love brunch!

You know what else is a choice? Being a Democrat. Democrats weren't born Democrats. They chose to be Democrats. I'm not telling you to stop hating. I just want you to hate where hate deserves. Hating gays is hate we could be using on the Democrats.

We shouldn't discriminate against gays. We should get more of them to be Republicans. They're supporting the economy by buying high-end appliances and teacup poodles.

Do you want manufacturers of super-tight T-shirts to go out of business?

No!

Would you forsake Socrates, Plato and Grandpa Walton?

No!

There's room for everyone. We all belong in the GOP. So come on, David Geffen, get on board Nathan Lane, come on, Johnny Depp... Really? You would have thought with the tiny glasses. So come on, L.A. Sparks, come on half the population of Palm Springs. Oh, who are we kidding, come on all of Palm Springs. Come on, Anne Heche, you confused son of a biatch. Come under the big tent. The Grand Ol' Party just got grander.

In the words of the Founding Father of the Republican party, Abraham Lincoln, "A house divided against itself cannot stand." And that house, my friends, will be resurfaced with an aged-lime wash and flipped for a profit!

Right. It's not a policy shift, it's a "what can we do to appear modern and keep the checkbooks open" shift.

Stay classy, Conservatives.

My sad prediction:

Republicans in Congress will offer a bill to legalize gay marriage. Then they'll put some awful stuff in the bill, like eliminating Social Security. Dems will vote against it, but it will pass with Republican votes.

And forever after, Republicans will constantly say that they were the ones to champion gay marriage, and that Dems were always the anti-gay party.

2013-03-25 12:06:24 PM
Makes sense, statistically the gay and lesbian population have a higher income than the hetero population. Will the money offset the poor voters who were supporting the GOP based on the anit-gay stance? T^is one will be harder to tease out.

On the other hand, there were a few gays that made a lot of money by embracing Democrats.

Like Barney Franks' boyfriends.

If Republicans want to stop hating on gays, I'm for it.

Obama did and it didn't hurt him. Hillary jumped onboard last week. Get the GOP on that bandwagon and argue about other things.

Never going to happen.  Don't let the Ron Paul wing of the party fool you; Republicanism is still primarily a movement of social conservatism.  Even the Tea Party, which was supposed to be an unaffiliated grassroots neo-populism has opposition to abortion, gay marriage, and gun regulation as the most commonly shared views of its members.  God, gays, and guns indeed.

Didn't they just ban gays from their little CPAC thingy a few weeks ago?

Alternative: Dems put an amendment legalizing marriage equality on every single bill that moves, forcing the GOP to kill it again and again and again.

And so it begins in earnest.

The reconciliation.

"Whelp, them gays can marry now, how can we make money off of them getting married?"

No surprise.  The republicans are the party of business and money.  It just took them a while to see where the money is moving so they could follow it.

How disingenuous of them.  You can't tell me that everyone will just nod and say "okay, great! Finally." and that be the end.  This has got to raise flags somewhere as to their sincerity.  The article flat out said that the change is for money.

/it's dishonest crap like this that makes me want to just slap them around.
