I was once sick of my D&D players being so ready for everything all the time, so I pit them against a cult of subterranean monsters who abducted people by opening sinkholes underneath them. It was fun watching them come up with elaborate ways to suspend their tents from trees at night, and spend as little time walking on the dirt as possible. Like watching a bunch of grown-ass men play a rousing game of "The floor is lava".
