The practice of selling indulgences didn't go away, it just went underground. If this guy was a better fundraiser, Christ would be more willing to make his countenance shineth down from the heavens.

Not retaining his services has nothing to do with forgiveness. In fact, they are not an any position to grant forgiveness, since he did nothing that affected the school at that time.
It comes down to having a standard they want to uphold, and he did not meet that standard.

I'd rather have a guy pushing religion who had a checkered past.  His path from sin to righteousness through religion tells of the power of faith much more than the guy who sits up in front preaching to the choir.

The irony is how liberals lambast corporations for doing such things as listing weight to help reign in HC costs. They declare this an invasion of privacy. But if it happens to a christian it is haha or fark them.

Actually you could get fired from most companies for lying on your application. Even if it's only that pesky little section about prior criminal record. I suspect that's what happened here.

2013-03-25 11:28:41 AM
Erm, suspending someone who committed a sex crime to run a full investigation when you're running a school? yeah.
They don't want to be the next Penn State.
Imagine the derp if it came out that he was soliciting students. (even if the students were consenting adults)

2013-03-25 11:34:55 AM
Well, not fired. Suspended. And in a situation like that, entirely understandable. It's the standard response to a crime on a record involving sex, for someone working near children, Christian college or otherwise.

And you know, it's not like non-Christian schools are exactly OK with this sort of thing. Remember that ex-porn actress turned science teacher who got fired for her distant past?

What's the harm in religion?

Well, this guy lost his job for getting arrested for trying to get laid two decades ago because of it.

Though, his job was for that religion at one of its hate mills, so I guess my tears are of the crocodile kind.

Slight distinction: being a porn actress isn't illegal. Soliciting a prostitute is.  I know, in the context of a christian organization, probably doesn't matter. Still.

No surprise. This is common with pretty much any organization that tries to suppress natural human sexuality. Hell, look at the catholic church.

An influential man once was in a situation involving something along these lines...

-  "Teacher," they said to Jesus, "this woman was caught in the act of adultery.
-  The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?"
-  They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger.
- They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, "All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!"

Let's see if they in fact practice what they preach

Calmamity: On the one hand, way to go with that whole forgiveness thing, Christians.

Forgiveness is a silly idea.  Who has he harmed?  Himself under God?  God will forgive him.  Nobody at the school is in a position to issue forgiveness for his actions, because there was no harm to any of them.

I suppose they could forgive him for lying on his job application.  But forgiveness is earned.  He had a chance to make amends for 22 years.  Tell the truth (although lets face it, none of us would).  And he chose to keep the lie.  Hell, he's just being reviewed, they may still "forgive" him anyway.

People believe that morality is an indicator of future actions.  That a person who violates a moral code are more prone to commit another moral breach.  This is a philosophy, not Christianity.  But it is one that a lot of our justice system is based on.  Stiffer penalties for repeat offenders, 3 strikes laws etc...  And lets face it, a person with a tear drop tattoo on their face, may be born again, but you aren't stupid.  You keep one eye open around them.

But as you say.. Eh,  fu*k 'im.

I'm not sure that's always true in practical application. Also not sure it's consistent with what their Jesus was said to preach.

There are some private and public sector jobs you can't get if you have a bankruptcy in your past. And having a bankruptcy is not a criminal offense. Some crap you do will follow you till the day you die. Sucks, but that just the way things are.

I agree. It not like South Carolina regularly gives millions in state funding to the college for funding of students just because it was founded before 1962, Add in the other states that do this, there a fair amount of public money that goes to that place.

Oh you thought just because it was a private college they had no public funding at all? How adorable.

Yes, and a public school still fired her for doing something legal, in her past.

/personally, I'd much rather my kids were taught by someone that did porn on the weekend than someone that declares that they're celibate.
