Not always.

The woman mentioned in the article who has AIDS and doesn't use protection may have been a victim at some point, but she's not anymore. And yes, anyone who has sex with a prostitute without using a condom is an idiot and some people would say they deserve to get AIDS too for being so stupid, but they can bring it home to their wife. They may even get their wife pregnant and have a child born with HIV.

Legalize and regulate it. I think very few people would pick up a crack whore walking the streets if they could go to a licensed prostitute who has monthly medical checkups and is certified as not having HIV or any STDs.

Sure we do. Technically drugs aren't legal in the Netherlands, we just "tolerate" them (best translation of the official term I could come up with). While coffeeshops are allowed to sell weed and hash, they can't legally buy it and no-one can legally grow it. Therefore every transaction has at least two illegal components, the grower and the fact that the coffeeshop bought it. There are weekly reports of grow-ops that get busted, but the police don't go after coffeeshop owners. We could simply legalise it completely but those damn holier than thou Christians in the House of Representatives keep blocking that. They are losing ground fast but it'll be a few more years until we have people in the government who can look beyond "drugs are bad, mkay?" And because of that we are stuck with practices that are 40 years (wild guess) old but aren't being updated to include the obvious benefits the program had. Sometimes it sucks being the frontrunner, once people pass you and are seeing great benefits you are still stuck in the old system. With the idiots arguing against expanding the legality we'll probably be stuck there for a while longer.

Just look at the bullshiat around the legislation that was supposed to ban tourists from buying drugs, it hasn't even been formally rolled out yet (just a few test location along the Belgian border) and already those areas are experiencing more street sellers, more crime, more harassment, more speeding cars (seriously) and so on. They are stopping the experiment but the coffeeshops the legislation pushed out of business aren't coming back because they have been zoned out of the city. And there are still parties who want to keep going with this particular brand of failure despite the fact that everyone could see the consequences. But that never stopped a moron from trying stuff "for the greater good."

And if you regulate it that means the prostitutes will start keeping better records.  It'll make it easier to spot which John is roughing up the providers or passing off the STDs and who to sue for child support.  Better for everyone, all around.  Anything that gets a pimp out of the way is a good thing.

Wait a sec....record keeping?  That's a slippery slope to totalitarianism, my friend.  If the feds keep records, they'll know what you have and come to confiscate it from you.  Lack of Vice Squads is freedom in action!  Don't turn over your "guns" to the feds....

I love false equivalency...

They never mentioned any "donations" but the services never came up either. To be fair, they were the most cleancut looking hookers I'd ever seen.  I'm rather surprised the mormons let them just prance about in Temple Square.

The victim is society.

Ghettos have hookers. Do you want to live in a ghetto?

I don't, which is why I want drugs, prostitution, etc. out of our society.

Being all cute and like LOL, that just happens in poor people's neighborhoods is not an answer.

Dallas is doing the same thing with shoplifting arrests.  If the value of goods stolen is less than $50 the police won't come out and the store owner is responsible for detaining the suspect, getting their information and filing the report.  Ta-da!!!  Lower shoplifting numbers.

Ghettos have hookers, hookers do not make ghettos. Not all hookers are in ghettos. It is not a choice between ghettos with hookers and no ghettos. This is a false dichotomy. If you do not want to live in a ghetto then do not move into one by having available cash to be able to live somewhere else. The best way of doing this is to have your shiat together. It is not necessary for drugs, prostitution, and whatever `etc` is to be banned for you to get your shiat together.

Your logic is bad and you should feel bad.

If only the men had access to sex at home, they would not have the need to go to the illegal outlet.

And I'm guessing assault numbers will skyrocket.
No shoplifter is going to be "detained" by a store.

On the flip side, HIV is now curable, so it's not much worse than bringing the clap home, although it's quite a bit less obvious while it's still in the curable stage.

Moralistic zoning laws are probably even more pernicious than outright morality legislation, because there's nearly zero transparency or appeal short of a high court case. Of course some people might deserve the electors they get, but it sucks for those who now have to uproot their lives to move or live with the consequences.
