Clicked expecting slideshow.  Pleasantly surprised.

Cluckity: Great list composed almost entirely of people who are either unavailable or already failed miserably when given the opportunity to capture a TV audience. I'm surprised they didn't recommend a dead person just to round out the list.

You know who would be good? Johnny Carson.

Drew Barrymore's got the goods for it.

Yeah why was Joan Rivers on the list? She had a show 20 years ago. No one is suggesting Fallon be replaced by Chevy Chase.

2013-03-25 11:45:49 AM

SilentStrider: Aisha Tyler would be a good pick.

Except that she'd quit after six months when she got bored.

2013-03-25 11:46:46 AM
I wouldn't watch any of them - especially Aisha Tyler.

2013-03-25 11:47:30 AM
Why does it have to be a comic?  Can't it be someone who just interviews people, like that Carson Daly chick?

KJUW89: SilentStrider: Aisha Tyler would be a good pick.

Except that she'd quit after six months when she got bored.

That's about five and a half months longer than Hal Sparks.

NuttierThanEver: Thunderboy: Summer Glau's Love Slave: SilentStrider: Aisha Tyler would be a good pick.

I couldn't cope with the cognitive dissonance, because my mind would be constantly re-running Archer moments.

/Lana.
//LANA!
///LANA!!!

danger zone!

TRUCKASAURAS

/also I do think Aisha would kick ass

Aisha would be excellent. If you haven't listened to Girl on Guy treat yourself.

Also IMO if you are going to throw in Natasha Leggero because she isn't well known, how about the funnier (again IMO) Jen Kirkman or Morgan Murphy? I'd add the better know Amy Schumer but she has the same problem with Sarah Silverman that there is no way their comedy translates on to network.

The only way a female host would work for a late night talk show, or really any talk show regardless of time slot, is if she was topless for the entirety of the show...

otherwise you'd end up with a late night The View. And nobody wants that trite, menstruation fueled, drivel occupying a time slot meant for funny people.

SilentStrider: Aisha Tyler would be a good pick.

Another vote for this.

I also like the Jane Lynch suggestion. She could very well have the chops to host a late night talk show.

2013-03-25 12:49:13 PM

BATMANATEE: My vote is for Sara Rue. She was a great guest host on The Late Late show before Ferguson started full time.

There are a couple things I really like about Rue...

I remember watching that live and being almost as surprised as Dave

I like the Molly Shannon and Aisha Tyler ideas.  And Sara Rue wouldn't be bad either.

And now for a pick out of left field...

Her Twitter feed is hilarious.

Snapper Carr: Amy Sedaris would be awesome. That is one funny lady.

No mention of Maria Bamford? Really?

Back in the day I would have suggested Merrill Markoe, Elayne Boosler or Carol Leifer.  I'm out of the loop nowadays so I don't know who the kids are into.

Julianne Smolinski. She's not very well-known, but she's really funny.

Actually, Kathy Griffin would be good.

She'd really drill them for tid-bits...and she'd already be "in the know" on a lot to tackle them with.

It's essentially her whole bit already.

Another vote for Aisha Tyler. Listen to some of her podcasts, she can be entertaining with even the lamest of guests.

I wouldn't watch it, but that sounds like the only good suggestion from this thread.

Atomic Spunk: How about Amy Schumer? She is pretty hilarious.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! She sucks!

How about Monique? Or maybe Simmore?

I wish more talk show hosts followed this model.

If they cancel Community after this season, what about Alison Brie?  She's pretty much the only woman alive who would get me to switch over from Craig Ferguson.

Why not go all the way and get Madea? Strange comparison though, since Amy is white, skinny, and, well... funny.

Where do I go to vote for Amy Sedaris?

2013-03-25 08:45:40 PM
I know she rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but I think Paula Poundstone has one of the quickest, sharpest minds in comedy.

The Bird: I know she rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but I think Paula Poundstone has one of the quickest, sharpest minds in comedy.

That's a really cool idea, I haven't seen her do anything in ages.  She could be very fun running a show.

2013-03-25 09:17:50 PM
Amy Sedaris is the only one I would watch. Because she's the only one for whom the filters come down.

Agree. I listen to the public radio quiz show Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me that she is often on--and she always seems to have good knowledge about what's happening in the world.

2013-03-25 10:26:18 PM
I just popped in to vote for Aisha Tyler.  The only genuinely funny girl on that list.

2013-03-26 01:18:29 AM

puckrock2000: Joan Rivers
Why not? The hardest working woman in show business is still one of its funniest, and she deserves another shot at network talk show stardom.

Besides, Edgar Rosenberg can't kill himself again.

/her Fox late-night show was so awful they had to replace it with something called the Wilton North Report
//bet they were kicking themselves for letting Arsenio Hall go

Joan Rivers and Silverman need to DIAF!

gopher321: Who's got the biggest rack?

Not Tig.

/love her like crazy all the same

2013-03-27 11:30:19 AM

TuteTibiImperes: I could see Natasha Leggero working as well, she seems like she has big enough balls to stand up to big guests.  For some reason I always confuse her with Pamela Adlon in shows though, they look/sound a lot alike.

Samantha Bee just comes off as abrasive and annoying, I doubt I would watch her.

Molly Shannon could be an interesting pick, she does a good job playing off of other people.

From a non-comedy background but with potential Amanda Tapping or Felicia Day would be fun hosts.

Claudia Black would get my vote, although I don't know how Americans would react to an Aussie host.
