TuteTibiImperes: List fails without Tina Fey

I say Tina and Amy together.  Then again, that might be too much awesomeness for the universe to handle safely.

I could see Natasha Leggero working as well, she seems like she has big enough balls to stand up to big guests.  For some reason I always confuse her with Pamela Adlon in shows though, they look/sound a lot alike.

Samantha Bee just comes off as abrasive and annoying, I doubt I would watch her.

Molly Shannon could be an interesting pick, she does a good job playing off of other people.

From a non-comedy background but with potential Amanda Tapping or Felicia Day would be fun hosts.

2013-03-25 12:47:45 AM
Aisha Tyler would be a good pick.

2013-03-25 12:48:08 AM
Amy Sedaris would be cool.

Sandra Bernhard would be better.

I doubt any female would get late night talkshow host tho. That's just how it rolls now. Sad but true.

2013-03-25 01:13:47 AM
Do those still exist?

2013-03-25 02:30:23 AM
Joan Rivers
Why not? The hardest working woman in show business is still one of its funniest, and she deserves another shot at network talk show stardom.

Because she sucked the first time and she hasn't been funny since the 80s.

2013-03-25 03:42:39 AM
I don't see how these women would have the time with all the cooking and cleaning and sammich making they have to do...

2013-03-25 03:56:24 AM
How about Garfunkel and Oates?  I picture some sort of bizarre variety show.

2013-03-25 03:57:51 AM
Amy Sedaris would be awesome. That is one funny lady.

I'm not sure about Aisha Tyler. She's wonderful on Archer but I watched a standup thing she did and I was pretty underwhelmed.

No mention of Maria Bamford? Really?

Not just funny. She's really quick on her feet, like Ellen.

I'm amazed how one family can have two such talented comedians -- David and Amy. Their home life had to be bizarre.

2013-03-25 04:11:07 AM
No way Silverman is ever being let anywhere near a network talk show chair. Joan and Melissa Rivers appear happy to just make what they're doing the family business.

Samantha Bee would be my pick out of that list.

2013-03-25 04:23:12 AM

SilentStrider: Aisha Tyler would be a good pick.

I couldn't cope with the cognitive dissonance, because my mind would be constantly re-running Archer moments.

Sarah Silverman?   Are they trolling?

Amy Sedaris would be worth watching.

2013-03-25 04:58:50 AM
List needs some Laura Grey. I think she's got the improv background (The Second City) and the personality to be a good host; she just hasn't been on the scene long enough to get the attention she deserves. I think she'd be a better pick than 8/10 of the people on that list.

2013-03-25 05:04:16 AM
Just like with women priests issue, I completely support putting women into a position I already ignore and fall asleep to.

Well, we're gonna get another test, 'cuz she's hosting the revival of Whose Line this summer...

Jennifer Lawrence.  Her Q&A at the Oscars was awesome.  She may be a better comedian than an actress, though I wonder if she can adjust to scripted comedy.

Samantha Bee, on the other hand, has never been funny.  If anything, she takes what the writers give her and flattens it.

2013-03-25 07:06:33 AM
My vote is for Sara Rue. She was a great guest host on The Late Late show before Ferguson started full time.

Mainly horror (and a stint as a Bond Girl in The Spy Who Loved Me)
but also a few roles that could be considered sci-fi-esque (or at least fantasy).

Starcrash (1979)
E.R. Burroughs' 'At the Earth's Core' (1976)
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1974)

She's working the convention circuit and still looks pretty damn nice and is very friendly to boot.

That would be awesome. That's why nobody on the big four networks will do it.

They would run out of ideas pretty quickly. As it is, they have to pace their awesomeness already.

Sedaris on Chelsea Lately

I don't know what it is about her that rubs me the wrong way.  Maybe it was just a bad first exposure from that nearly unwatchable Strangers With Candy show she did.

Whitney Cummings? Ok, well, maybe not. But I think she's kinda sexy.

My first thought was to criticize a few of the listed women, but then I realized that I haven't watched anything but Letterman since Carson retired so I may lack standing on this issue.

Fallon bombs at 11:30, Viacom gets Letterman to quit early, and Viacom pays Stewart a billion dollars to move Daily Show/Colbert to CBS.  Leno gets his job back yet again.  Conan continues cutting himself just to feel something.

There will be no women in late night.  At least not on the networks.

Given?  you missed the point subby.  Those moments are seized and not given.

2013-03-25 10:35:03 AM
The only two on the list that would work are Poeler and Aisha Tyler. Amy because she's well known enough, and Aisha because people who didn't know her would warm up to her fast.

The others are either not well known enough, or wouldn't make good hosts. I think Sarah Silverman is great but I can't see her being on the other side of the interviewer / guest equation.

Not sure why they didn't mention the obvious, Tiny Fey. Has she retired or something?

2013-03-25 10:35:10 AM
Hosting a late night TV talk show? Why not just call the list Ten People Who Should Be Last to the Orgy?

2013-03-25 10:38:56 AM

TuteTibiImperes: List fails without Tina Fey

I know it's been said, but WHY WASN'T TINA ON THIS LIST?

Who puts together a list of the best female comedians and leaves off Tina Fey?  Seriously?

SmellsLikePoo: Who puts together a list of the best female comedians and leaves off Tina Fey? Seriously?

Anyone who watched SNL when she was a writer?

2013-03-25 10:50:08 AM
Expected the list to suck. With the exception of Joan Rivers, those are pretty great picks.

2013-03-25 10:53:24 AM
No to Sarah Silverman. She's a one-trick-pony. The whole "Look! I'm a girl and I can be gross and talk about farting and pooping!" wears thin very quickly.

Aisha Tyler would be interesting, as long as she keeps making Archer episodes.

Actually, I'm surprised no one has said Jane Lynch. She's probably the best woman to host a comedic late night show. She was freaking great in the Comedy Central roasts.

2013-03-25 10:54:35 AM
Great list composed almost entirely of people who are either unavailable or already failed miserably when given the opportunity to capture a TV audience. I'm surprised they didn't recommend a dead person just to round out the list.

Aisha would be excellent. If you haven't listened to Girl on Guy treat yourself.

Also IMO if you are going to throw in Natasha Leggero because she isn't well known, how about the funnier (again IMO) Jen Kirkman or Morgan Murphy? I'd add the better know Amy Schumer but she has the same problem with Sarah Silverman that there is no way their comedy translates on to network.

2013-03-25 12:33:52 PM
The only way a female host would work for a late night talk show, or really any talk show regardless of time slot, is if she was topless for the entirety of the show...

otherwise you'd end up with a late night The View. And nobody wants that trite, menstruation fueled, drivel occupying a time slot meant for funny people.

I also like the Jane Lynch suggestion. She could very well have the chops to host a late night talk show.
