Yeah, that's got to be bullshiat. I bet it's closer to 98%

90% of legally purchased ones, perhaps.

2013-03-24 07:36:54 PM
90 percent of registered firearms or 90 percent of all firearms in the U.S.?

naughtyrev: 90% of legally purchased ones, perhaps.

I'll buy that.

What types of guns?  If we're including all firearms, hunting rifles, shotguns, etc, it might be plausible that total ownership skews white.  If we limit the discussion to handguns and weapons designed primarily to kill people (instead of target shooting or hunting) I have a feeling the results would be different.

BarkingUnicorn: Overall, 22 percent of Americans were found to own guns, while another 11 percent live in homes with someone else who owns guns. Among whites, the number of gun owners is slightly higher, at 26 percent, with an additional 13 percent who live in gun-owning households.

But only 12 percent of African-Americans and 13 percent of Latinos own guns. Just 5 and 7 percent of each ethnic group, respectively, lives in a household with someone else who owns a gun.

Well, the survey revealed the number of people willing to admit they had guns...

You're right, we need better data.  DOOR-TO-DOOR SEARCH!

We could require all firearms to be registered, and do it retroactively (are all new purchases required to be registered?  I've never bought a gun) of course that still ends up depending on individual compliance.

Someone with more Google-fu could dig up crime statistics to see the demographics for violent crime in which guns are involved, which is really the only thing to be worried about.  I don't care if the dude down the street owns a rifle that he uses to hunt deer or a shotgun he uses to shoot skeet, but I do care if he has a handgun that he's used to hold someone up.

We need to encourage minority gun ownership.

Simple as that.

Scary to Mr. Moore? Then odds are I'll like'em.

I use him as a contra indicator

I won a 12 gauge at a gun drawing last weekend and I picked it up Thursday. The store did a background check and I think the clerk recorded the serial number of the shotgun on the paperwork as well.

missing the obvious tag.

Why would these people own guns?  How about hunting?  Target shooting?  Collecting?  Funny how Mikey automatically assumes that self defense is pretty much the only reason.

Do they make creme-filled chocolate guns?

Always remember, 90 percent of all people the news edits before allowing them to be shown on tv are probably different.

90% of the Big Macs in the US are eaten by Michael Moore.

I love how the go to argument against gun registration is "BUT DER GUBMINT GON TAKE ALL ME GUNS, I TELL YA!"

Uh, no, eejit, it'll help us when Habib gets shot tending the local deli ...

I read the headline, and immediately thought "Fark agrees".

Someone let my wife know I was right about something.

Jesus Christ, I can feel the smug emanating from my monitor. Fark Michael Moore.

A definite must see.

And yet 90% of the gun deaths are owned by scared black people. So take all the white people's guns?

But they have guns - they're not scared any Moore.

2013-03-24 09:35:22 PM
Believe it or not - there are still areas of the country where a good rifle is still an essential tool.

/coyotes, bears, racoons, fox, etc - when one comes into your yard  you'll understand

If some elected officials had not already explicitly advocated firearm confiscation, concerns of confiscation would be less credible.

Concerns of confiscation would also be less credible had firearm confiscation not already demonstrably occurred in the past.

Scared?  Maybe the city folk are scared.  Not all of us in the city are citified.  Moore is scared by the folk that aren't citified.  That's smart of him.  He looks like he can squeal real good.

2013-03-24 09:36:19 PM
So that means the other 10% are owned by scared black people? Or just not-scared white people?

Because clearly this means that only scared people own guns, or only white people own guns, right?

2013-03-24 09:36:32 PM
Was the OBVIOUS tag shot to death?

2013-03-24 09:37:44 PM
Rush Limbaugh says something stupid: Liberals make fun of the stupid thing he said, then blow it out of the water.

Michael Moore says something stupid: Cons make fun of his weight, never actually address the stupid thing he said.

2013-03-24 09:38:02 PM
Scared white people? They shouldn't look into the mirror. They're terrifying.

2013-03-24 09:39:04 PM
As a scared white person with a gun, Michael Moore is right. I live in bear country, I've been stalked by bears on my way home, had close encounters with them jumping down within 15 feet of me, etc.. Not all of us are city people, and liberal though I may be, Mr. Moore wouldn't last 10 minutes in the summer out here.
