Every once in a while I enter a bill on there, but I got bored when I only got two hits. Plus when I have dollar bills I usually forget to enter them. If I get a marked one though, I always check to see where it came from.

Kind of CSB though, the one bill that did get two hits. Both of the people who entered it after I did had the same first name as me.

it's pretty interesting if you have the kind of imagination that can play off of what that bill has seen and what it's been through in its journey.

also, it's a great way to sneaky-teach kids geography.

I had to read my post again...then couldn't help laughing at myself. +1 for your work here.

The problem is way too often you enter a bill and get no history on it.

More interesting is when I got a Korean coin as change. It was about the same size as a quarter. That coin had traveled quite far. I wonder if some Korean came to the US and spent it laughing to himself about ripping off stupid Americans.

2013-03-24 09:27:54 PM
Oh, and subby...not just the US. Seen stuff end up in countries I never heard of.

Yeah?  What happens when we switch to dollar coins a la Canada?  No more fun for them?

Or track the Abes?

I've logged a couple of these.

Been doing it for a few years and have over 7000 bills entered.  So far, I have two hits in Mexico, two hits in the Middle East, and none in Canada.  Difficulty; I live in Minnesota.

/must not have Internet in Canuckistan.

I live a few hours from the Canadien border. One of their coins looks very similar to our quarter.

Damn thing jams coin-op washers and dryers.

You can track any denomination up to $100.  I should see about getting myself some $2 bills.

/ I won't spend it at a Taco Bell though.

2013-03-24 10:25:00 PM
I had two bills explode in hits, one in Las Vegas (no surprise) and on in Iraq during the US occupation (big surprise).

I also had one dollar that kept ping-ponging between the bar, newstand and gift shop at Buffalo airport for a couple of weeks.

Weird, the first time I'd ever seen this was when I got one for change last night.

You can log in any bill currently in circulation. Just visit the website. Pretty interesting.

I appear to have entered some bills over the years...

(checks)

...and have yet to get a hit on a single one of them.

2013-03-24 10:26:13 PM
Haven't checked it in years...none of my bills have any hits...maybe because they didn't have the where's George stamp.

Got me by a minute. Tiny fist and all that.

Wow, didn't know that website was still in existence. I remember my Dad telling me about it way back during our dial-up internet days. I'll have to start entering bills in it. It would be cool to see how far they've traveled.

Stamp, no, but you could always scribble wheresgeorge.com in the bottom strip of the bill like I do.

Have some bills on hand now; might as well see if anything comes up a hit. Likely not.

I've got a couple that I entered that I got when I was visiting Guantanamo. No interesting hits since I registered them. I has a sad.

There should be a rule state something like "The longer a $1 bill is in circulation, the probability of it ending up in a stripper's G-string approaches 1."

2013-03-24 10:38:00 PM
I have gotten a hit or two on the bills I have entered over the last 10 years. Not a very good %. At first I thought people were just not entering the bills when they get them, now I think most of them get destroyed when they pass through the bank because of the writing on them.

2013-03-24 10:41:22 PM

Me, too, quite a few.

I don't really have anything interesting to add here, though.

Apparently, since we've last checked in, the geocaching community started trying to ruin things for everyone.

Only if you make the bill unfit to be re-issued. A little scrawl of the URL on the perimeter strip, the bill is fine. Stamping it right over George's face, that's not.

I sometimes think about the dollar bills I give at fast food drive through, and they probably just end up with the car behind me.  That and the sticky, coffee pennies I sometime give them.  Oh, and my ass pennies.

They named the movie "Twenty Buck's."  Like, with an apostrophe.  Its enough to drive you mad.

Growing up in Michigan meant any pocketful of change included some Canadian coins. Nobody cared, they were accepted everywhere. I don't remember if they worked in vending machines.

I was taken aback when I was in Louisiana and a cashier wouldn't take my Canadian quarter.

The CDC was interested in Where's George for how it can model the spread of an infection.  I always thought it would be an interesting way to do a biowar attack, by circulating tainted bills. I think X-Files may have tried that plot device once, can't remember.

I've entered bills a few times, very rarely get a hit, most of them, never.  That's the one problem with WG:  it depends on people curious and imaginative enough to re-enter the found bills. Banks won't give a shiat and will just as soon send them to a shredder.

I did it for a few years, when I was traveling a lot for work.  Entered bills in FL, NH, CA, HI, Italy, and more, and got ... no hits.

So I stopped.  And then lost my password, so I haven't bothered to start again, even though I am traveling a lot once more.

First hit was 1995. Found at a grocery store. So far, I have entered 3,273 Bills worth $15,543, and have  511 hits on those  Total hits: 620 (adding bills from other georgers). You get on an email list for each bill re-entered, it's interesting sometimes. CSB: I got a bill re-entered from Mexico and I pm'ed him to say thanks...The return was that he actually got it in Columbia, but Mexico was the only choice near it that was available. Another went to Georgia and back to this Po-dunk burg in Two weeks!
