Officials say a vial containing a virus that can cause hemorrhagic fever has gone missing from a research facility in Galveston, but say there's no reason to believe there's a threat to the public.

Huh. So Venezeula has something just as shiatty as Chavez Was:

The Guanarito Virus is also known as Venezuelan Hemorrhagic Fever.

The stuff seems to be spread like Haantavirus is, but it's not Captain Trips. Person to Person transmission is "unlikely", and taking droplet isolation precautions can protect responders and healthcare workers.

Dude...swear to god...that is one of the earliest albums (yes, vinyl) that I ever bought with my meager allowance...and it was in no small part due to the cover art.

BOC was the first "real" concert I saw, too...

Well fark it, I'm not sure how else we can have a BOC discussion thread so I'm going with this.
First time I saw them live-- ExtraterrestrialLive--1982.
At one point (before my girlfriend threw them in a car trunk for a week in July while moving) I had 1st prints of every BOC album to that point (1989)
Favorite album cover after FOO

Yeah, Agents of Fortune was a better cover but the Escher 3d thing of this one really got my 14yo self intrigued.

I met a woman in London, back when I worked in a small record store there, she was a bit spacey and wild-eyed. We got talking about BOC and her voice dropped to a whisper to say "there's something you need to know about that band, nobody knows this, not the media, the government, not even the band know about it."
She then said she couldn't tell me about it.

So... Its vector is Venezuelan rats, but not US rats? Does that sound incredibly unlikely to anyone else?

And hemorrhagic fevers are really really scary.

Incredibly? No, the huge temperature differences (freezing/never freezing) mean the species mix is probably totally different, and this is probably only carried by one of them.

But still I'd keep your sheep
