Guy McRule: The Muthaship: Found 2 kids both under 4 years old in the parking lot behind the courthouse when I was a prosecutor years ago.  They were locked in and crying hysterically.  Stood there with a gathering crowd for 15-20 minutes with a gathering crowd.  The "mom" finally showed up (she had been inside paying a ticket) after several more minutes.  I had the court security sheriff's deputies arrest her.  She really seemed to have no idea why.

What happened to the kids after their mom was arrested?

Once they were old enough to drive, they were let out of the car.

diaphoresis: Well, it 10 yrs, the law will be "you can't leave a child alone for more than 30 secs or you get fined $10,000. This applies to all children under 26.

We'll all have actual helicopters; that way, we can be helicopter parents while piloting helicopters.

/ I want a heat vision and a loudspeaker on mine; that way, I can harangue the children from the helicopter

TheSwissNavy: More stuff white people like - interfering with others. I think this is dumb but the kid isn't in imminent danger. Cops love this stuff because it makes them feel important, instead of like small-penised douchebags.

Wish I could find that picture from the 1950's that James Lileks has, showing mothers parking their strollers - with the babies in them - outside a supermarket.

I am a fan of seat belts though...

This still happens everyday in snowy Copenhagen. Mums believe fresh air is good for children and will bundle them up and leave them outside a coffee shop to sleep while they go inside for a bit. They get a seat by the window and keep and eye on the stroller. No stories of kidnapped children there and everyone is pretty sane, chilled out and happy

I'm unfamiliar with subby's unique punctuation style... It's not often you see a semicolon followed immediately by a comma... Most people would've used a single colon there instead of either of them...

They hung out in the courthouse until their grandmother came to get them.
