How many Laterns are running around?

Who cares?

They'll just reboot everything with new #1 issues in a few months anyway because sales are so shiatty, and John Stewart will be a Green Lantern again... and probably a redheaded gay muslim transsexual, so DC can jump on plenty of mainstream media attention grabbing bandwagons all at once.

Sometimes I'll take a trip to the city town. I'll take some cash money out of the nearest ATM machine, then I'll grab myself a tuna fish sandwich at the local bistro restaurant while I read some DC Comics.

There are many things about the New 52 I don't like, but you are chucking random insults. Even though sales are good in my stores, I would like to see the JLA stuff tightened up, and Superman given a defined path going forward. What is it you want out of DC?

DC not to continue to shiat all over their storied Vertigo imprint. They really haven't managed it well lately, and have been losing talent like Brian K Vaughn to Image as a result.

That's a legitimate complaint, but Berger is gone and I'm not sure how Vertigo figures into DC's future. Image has picked up the adult audience with a few years of good decisions and cultivating writer-driven books. Even though I am a devoted Vertigo follower, I can see the shift towards Image, and expect DC to up their game in the core universe. I'm pissed about their treatment of "Constantine", but I'll give them some time to work it out.

The entire Green Lantern corp/story has been a complete mess since the end of Blackest Night, and the John Stewart I know would rather be dead than be a part of this crap.

simplicimus: How many Laterns are running around?

1 Green Lantern of Earth, Kyle Rayner, and 2 from earth who are general Crops guys, John Stewart and Guy Gardner.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, John Stewart is the only good Human Green Lantern.

I'll stipulate right up front to Xanshi - but that was a result of him being written out of character anyway. He ordinarily doesn't behave like that.

Stewart is the only human GL you can rely on to not royally fark up a mission. He's level-headed, even-tempered and a natural leader. He succeeds on skill rather than luck like his peers. He also has the strongest moral compass of the four (well, five now I guess) and is the only lantern whose willpower can exceed the power of the ring itself.

He also looks the coolest.

Make mine Stewart.

I swear to god the only time anyone wrote any interesting stories with him was when he was insane or dead.

Ron Marz's run was probably the best GL run there had been since Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams in the 1970s.

If anyone had been writing consistently interesting GL stories in the 80s and 90s, they wouldn't have needed to Parallax Jordan up in the first place.

I thought his name was Jon Stewart?

I loved how in the (now cancelled) animated series, Hal Jordan ran into Guy Gardner way out in the middle of space, and Gardner told Jordan that he had been promoted to honor guard. The exchange was something to the effect of
Jordan: "Well if you're an honor guard now, who's protecting Earth?"
Gardner: "Some new guy. What was his name.....oh yeah, John Stewart."
Jordan: "Wait, the fake news guy?"
Too bad the show got cancelled it was just started to get good, having brought in and left story lines open for most of the different lantern corps, and having shown the book of black in the background.
/Even more mad that Young Justice also got the shaft.

And here's the farking truth.
You KNOW that were planning on running ads saying they were going to kill Green Lantern. People would freak out just like they did when they said a DC character was gay.
Then it turned out to be someone no one cared about in a TOTALLY DIFFERENT FARKING EARTH.
Like when Marve "killed Spider-Man". You know, the one in the FARKING ULTIMATE UNIVERSE THAT ABOUT 5 PEOPLE READ.

I used to read nothing but DC, but after they killed Robin AGAIN and then this, fark 'em. I hope the big wigs calling the shots die in a fire because they ruined the entire line for prophet.
Meanwhile, Johnathan Hickman and Matt Fraction are writing the FARK out of Avengers and Hawkeye and it's the best thing out there!

I'm with you on this one.  I cracked up when Hal said that and they were really taking that show into a great direction.

Speaking of Image again, I've really enjoyed Hickman's weirder stuff over there, especially Pax Romana and The Nightly News. If you haven't read those, I'd recommend checking them out.

here's the breakdown of interesting GL's from most to least
Hal Jordan, Alan Scott, Guy Gardner, Any GL in the GL corps, G'nort, ---> all the other lantern corps,, the wimpy artist guy who should have never had been a GL, and then John Stewart

the guys a snooze fest

Back to where it was before "Flashpoint".  Competent writers and artists and not someone they can get off the street and pay the minimum because "Dammit, Time Warner needs to meet Wall St. estimates for the quarter!"

Shall I go on?

Honestly, what's the point? This is DC we're talking about. ANYTHING they do doesn't matter because they reboot their whole universe over and over so often.

How can we take anything they do seriously? Marvel might retcon a character here or there, but their sliding timeline has never been interrupted or abruptly stopped to make changes across the board. DC has proven that if you reset your universe too often, people stop being interested in the characters because nothing is permanent or really matters. Batwoman's a lesbian who got married? Great. But then Superboy will punch reality and suddenly Batwoman is now Barbara Gordon, or she doesn't exist at all, or she has a whole new origin and lamer costume.

Honestly, DC lost me with New 52. I read every issue of JLA, and you know what? It sucks. The characters suck. The whole thing jumps around telling us "Hey, we had all these great adventures!" but never showing us these adventures. They just decided to reference their new history as if it had happened and we were witness to it, instead of actually WRITING that history and SHOWING us all these great things that supposedly happened over that five-year span of time.

Except, of course, for Batman... Apparently his history all remained the same, except for a few things. They don't want to explain how some things happened despite the lack of certain characters in this new timeline, so they just say "oh, haha, yeah, something like that happened some time. In the past. It's not important- Hey! Look! The Joker's face! Isn't that creepy?"

DC is a comic company that looks exactly like what you'd expect a place run by Warner Bros. executives to look like.

Honestly, I'd like them to go back to pre-Crisis On Infinite Earths status. That was where they went off the rails.

Either that, or do a full reboot that replaces the main DC universe with the one from the Justice League Unlimited/Batman/Superman animated series.

What they really need to do is stop giving guys like Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld jobs. They really stank up the place.

In a way it was alright that they did COIE; they needed to refresh the DCU at the time to be more modern and, frankly, what came out of it wasn't bad at all.

Either that, or do a full reboot that replaces the main DC universe with the one from the Justice League Unlimited/Batman/Superman animated series.

Only if Timm/Dini become the head honchos at DC.  Let those two have a sandbox as big as the DCU to work their magic in.

What they really need to do is stop giving guys like Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld jobs. They really stank up the place.

I actually have no real problem with Lee...so long as he does just art. Liefeld OTOH I want nowhere close to a pencil; he'll just see the first thing that he wants to draw, put a motherload of pouches on it, give it a huge gun that covers the entire cover while looking like it leaped off the ground or something.

My problem with Jim Lee is that he doesn't seem to like drawing characters that look older, so his solution when redesigning the DC universe was to make everyone look like teenagers, and give them costumes that look like cosplay rather than superhero gear.

I kinda hate most of his DC redesigns. They're ridiculously lazy, but then, I suppose he probably had some WB honchos telling him he couldn't do anything "radical" to the characters. His only solution was to drop 10 years from their ages and give their costumes lots of piping and seams, with high collars.
