That's nothing.  The federal government is selling off national landmarks to alleviate the debt.

The Liberty Bell was sold and is being renamed the Taco Liberty Bell.

Art lovers fear the sale of such a famous sculpture would set a worrisome precedent, triggering the sell-off of hundreds of lesser works housed in parks, public buildings and little local museums as communities throughout Britain struggle to balance their budgets amid the longest and deepest economic slowdown since the Great Depression.

...And?

List value for the copper is less than $700,000. You could get 70% of that for scrap.

100 tons @ 43.45 a pound. Worth more whole.

In addition to statues, why not sell a few statutes?  I'll bet BT would pay millions for a few here in the US.
/Companies pay to add them, so why not buy some back?

This one had me befuddled for years:

farm4.staticflickr.com

Was he giving the lobster first aid? Ripping one claw off to feed his family? What?

Finally I figured it out; he's measuring the claw to see if the lobster is too small and should be thrown back, thus selling the absurd myth that lobstermen are not all crooked thugs who evade regulation at every opportunity.

Way I look at it, if the government is selling, they're selling cheap. In this country, if private enterprise can make a profit off of it, the government will give it away. So it's either going to be "Naughtyrev's Statue of Liberty," "Naughtyrev's Strip Club of Freedom - Featuring the world's only 10 story pole!" or it's going to be scrap.

Hamilton was never president, he wasn't allowed to be, having been born outside the 13 colonies.

And the Statue of Liberty is a National Monument, not a city statue.

Selling the Henry Moore has been on the table for a while.  The funny thing is that it's no longer at the council estate it was given to, as they were worried about scrappers stealing it.  So they loaned it to a sculpture park.

For lulz, if the Supreme Court does strike down DOMA, it would be funny to buy that and call it "The Slippery Slope" and write some long-winded thing about how gay marriage lead us to sex with turtles. Write it as the most satirical piece around and see how many people laugh at the joke, get mad at it thinking it is serious, and salute it as a monument to their beliefs.
