man, that one album by that one band that 8 people have heard should be #1.

Start a magazine and make your own list.

Oh, and music is art not a competition.

Now to be a hypocrite Ruby Vroom should be on there.

No matter what your musical tastes and preferences are, you have to agree that Van Halen was too important to music to have that far down the list.

Haven't read through the thread, but - some of those are not debut albums.    Oh you mean the "commercial" albums.    Nevermind.

Rolling Stone is in the business of selling magazines. This list was manufactured to be hip and retro in all the right places, that's all.

Lorelle: So i've seen you quote Nicki Minaj and Trinidad James. Lets just face the facts that you don't even know what hip hop IS, and maybe just keep your mouth shut on the subject completely. And before we start getting into the music I listen to, be aware that I've roadied for Roger Daltry, maintain a deep love for bluegrass, and pretty much love all music. Except jazz. But even the stuff I don't like, I appreciate for what it's given to whatever culture it was involved in. And you won't hear me giving my two cents in jazz discussions, so maybe you should consider the same. Jus sayin.

TheJoe03: Have you even heard Paul's Boutique? Just how much are you talking our of your ass? I actually love classic rock and all kinds of stuff you would probably enjoy, so I actually know things about those genres. You, on the other hand, are coming from a position of total ignorance of hip hop music, and the only song you know was made by Nicki Minaj. It would be like a hip hop fan insulting rock music and using Creed as an example of why they think it sucks.

Who are you talking to?

Chicago Transit Authority should be somewhere on there. Other than that, not too bad.

Wow, I own over half of those.

Most surprised to see:  Wire - Pink Flag.

Most surprised to NOT see:  Duran Duran, Tori Amos

Most surprised it's not higher:  Madonna

Most surprised it's so high:  Arcade Fire ... should I be listening to this band?

Just because I/you are obsessed with those two doesn't make them the greatest.  Besides it has too much Zeppelin influence to be named anything greatest.  Cool yes, greatest of all time?  hmmm.

/Love the Stairway to Heaven cover at the Kennedy Center honors.

The list is for great debut album. Top 100 of them. I think DA falls in there somewhere.
