Ah I love the smell of gunfire in the morning.

IHOP.

It's pretty much like Waffle House for those of us who live outside of the South....

/ I've never been to a Waffle House.

Subby, that's what we down here in the South refer to as Waffle House drunk.

Nah, the Awful waffle is the lower brow greasier of the 2, IHOP at least tries to pretend to not be a greasy spoon.

Huddle House is even worse than Waffle House

Yup, pretty much any 24 hour breakfast place near a bar and club district is the same way.

/The stripper fights at the Waffle House on Piedmont in Atlanta used to be epic.

Closest I've gotten to getting shot was at an IHOP. And when I say closest I mean some guy shot down into the floor to intimidate the waitress into letting go of the money he was trying to steal, and I was sitting a few feet away. My ears would like people to not use guns indoors kthxbai.

Got lost in Newark once trying to get to the airport.  When a small convoy of "official" looking vehicles blew through an intersection right in front of me and didn't stop for anyone or anything, I followed them.  By the time we got to EWR (strangely enough, that's where they were going too) the convoy had just about doubled in size.  That is one seriously farked up place.

This is why I prefer Denny's. Sometimes cops eat at Denny's in the early morning hours. They've never arrested me for being drunk while ordering an omelette and I've never seen a crime committed at a Denny's let alone a shooting. I've heard of IHOP and Waffle House shootings and assaults though.

2013-03-24 01:00:41 PM
it's Newark.  They probably should've with the old ark.

2013-03-24 01:01:05 PM
IHOP should merge with Chuck E Cheese so it would be a 24 hr. operation. It would make a great reality TV show. Too bad the name Kitchen Nightmares is already used.

Racist comments after articles used to surprise me (and even bother me), but now I just expect them. I even laugh sometimes. What else can you do?

Here is how I explain Huddle House to people:

Denny's is a redneck IHOP
Waffle House is a redneck Denny's
Huddle House is the redneck Waffle House

then again only Huddle House I've ever been in was in Cleveland,GA

Sure, I can admit that a lot of people out there probably hate me because of my race. But if writing angry comments on line is the worst they're going to do...it's really not that bad. I've got it easy compared to my parents, grandparents, etc.

Waffle House is smaller, more expensive, not quite as good and doesn't have wifi.

OK, here's the heirarchy

Village Inn (here because it's just like IHOP, but smaller portions and more expensive)
IHOP
Waffle House
Denny's (No joke, if you get too drunk to go to Waffle House, you wash up at Denny's).

There are two Jewish summer camps in Cleveland, I was working at one. Nothing like taking the Israeli staff to Huddle House on nights off (only place open near by). The looks on their faces when the large southern woman with fat hanging off her arms waddles up to the table and "says what can I get you hunnies?" was awesome

Well... at least at the Waffle House everybody's armed. An armed diner is a polite diner.

CSB

A friend and I were drunk and had just a leeeeetle bit of LSD. Went to our favorite Waffle House. Somehow, we missed all of the police vehicles in the parking lot at 3 AM. We didn't really notice the sea of blue until we walked in. Somehow, we pulled it off. Maybe the combination... or something. Anyhoo, we enjoyed our breakfast, casually, and left. (Maybe they didn't give a rat's ass because we didn't try to shoot anyone.) Protip: Be polite, tip well.

it's nice to have an eatery open for the benefit of Hospital workers across the street. more likely the owner is a greedy SOB that doesn't care about the danger of being open 24/7 in a rough neighborhood.

CSB?

When I was a college kid, I worked the overnight at a Perkins -- the Denny's of the midwest. Real social scene late at night after the clubs let out. On one night, a man who had been in to eat walked out the front door and was immediately shot three times by another man who had left a little time before that. There was a girl involved somehow -- the shooter had come in with her, but the victim had spent some time talking to her in the restaurant after the other two had been arguing. After being shot, the victim made it back through the front door and collapsed.

911 told us to get everyone down below the level of the windows. But when I went around crouched to tell everyone, no one cared. Everybody knew there was a man bleeding to death in the lobby, but they all just wanted more ranch dressing or mayo. I guess when you gotta eat, you gotta eat.

The guy lived and sent us Christmas cards, and the shooter is in prison, so the story had a happy ending.

Why should there be a danger of being open 24/7?  People just shouldn't act like that.

Thankfully, NJ has outlawed hollow point ammunition, magazines over 10 rounds, and made damn near impossible for law abiding white folk to carry a concealed firearm, or this could have been much much worse!

THANKS OBAMA
