Shadow Blasko: Look... It's farking Visual Prozac okay?

It's cute, it's pretty, funny... and quite clever in places. It is a simple story with a good heart and it makes me forget about all the damned pessimistic bullshiat going on everywhere around me, while the leaders of my country sit on their asses and say "NO! U!" over and over again.

I don't know if I buy into this New Sincerity bullshiat or not, but watching the show makes me smile (smile smile) and it just feels good.

If they could bottle it, grow it, or put it in a pill I would take it with me everywhere.

Whatever tickles your pickle dude, but understand that most everyone else thinks that shiat is weird and hilariously farked up. So it gets made fun of. Doesn't help that you bronies flood random threads with ponies, making yourselves targets of ridicule.

WhippingBoy: Bronies are just socially awkward child-men who feel superior to others and band together because the "mundane" aren't smart enough to "get" them.

The same could be said about almost any fan club, sports group, or fan base

This is pretty much my take on it, too.

And fans like the ones in TFA are the reason I don't talk much about enjoying the show.

Bronies have went about making it nigh-impossible to defend them.

I created this alt just for this thread: Alphakronik: If you are a grown-ass man, and have a penchant for cartoons designed for little girls, time to pull your head out of your ass, move on out of moms basement and grow a pair of testes. No, you're not ironic and endearing.  You're an embarrassment to our gender.  Grow the fark up and be a man.

Real men don't get embarrassed because other men watch children's television.

Oh, I'm not embarrassed.  I'm worried about biatches watering down the gene pool.

Man I hate this shiat. First MLP invades my elementary school, so I run away to the internet.

Then they invade the internet and IT'S ALL GUYS.

So I flee to the underwebs, and now we have a narcissistic infestation called Cherilee spamming every board with his feelings. His.

CHERILEE IS A GUY. Some one make the horsefarkers die please.

Not much to worry about. The first and last time they've seen a vagina in real life was when they were born.

I kid, of course, but maybe people who spend time on FARK should be spending a little less time worrying about what others enjoy doing with their time.  Every time we get a Pony thread around here, it like the chess club deciding to make fun of the model train club for being "losers" and "nerds."

People who do this are to be made fun of, I mean those marrying fiction characters or objects. I don't care if it's Twilight Sparkle, a pillow, a video game character, or any of these weird things on this list you've got a problem. As a brony myself I love the characters, but they're characters...on a TV show. Now maybe if a real person adopts the personality of the character and you marry them, that's a little less weird, but still...come on guy. Personally I don't support shipping or R34 with ponies, it's the internet, I know it's out there just for that reason alone, but I don't endorse it or engage with it.
_______
Now there are some responses to give:

Slaxl: What about all the times someone didn't write a letter defending the honour of their imaginary pony wife? Why doesn't anyone ever talk about those times?

Valid point
____

1/10
____

Buttle not Tuttle: From the MTV article:

The writer here might be a troll. He might have sent this letter to Kevinsano hoping it would be posted, go viral, and humiliate the entire Bronie movement. It also might be very real. Which is rough.

That's the really unique thing about Internet culture: it doesn't necessarily matter whether we are sincere or not for an event like this to become a big deal. Everyone is anonymous, everyone at least feels like there will be no real life blowback for the things they say, what does it matter if you say you are going to marry a cartoon character?

Some of my thoughts exactly. Furthermore trolls on the internet are more a sign of serious social problem than your average brony.

I believe a lot of it is trolling. While some of it is similar to the folks to dress up as Klingon, etc., a lot of it is a corollary of Poe's law.

Basically, once the idea that there are crazy fans is out there, any characteristics that can be assigned to those crazy fans don't register as completely unbelievable, so it's easy to make up more believable crazy about it. As a result, blogger trolls fishing for hits get tossed in the hopper with the fragment of legitimate crazy, leading to a surplus of counterfeit crazy.

HO usually runs about on par with N, though anything smaller could prove a bit more costly. I find that buildings and a few other accessories are actually a bit cheaper with N. In any case, N allows for more stuff in a smaller space, so ultimately it's up to you.

I've never seen an MLP episode, but I love brony threads. Some people, on both sides, take it way too seriously. There are some who rage so hard I have to assume they're uncomfortable with their own feelings and want to show outward anger to make sure everyone knows they're not bronies.

You know, it's like this. There's a lot of things across history that have been socially unacceptable on a large scale. The only thing the Internet's down is 'rip down' the veil of so-called society to reveal what's really going on behind the scenes. Despite what people would have you believe, fetishes associated with things like this have been going on for as long as Ug and Thung found a rock shaped like a woman's hooha and hid it from the rest of the tribe.

Whether the lack of that veil is good or bad is essentially irrelevant now, because it is gone, and the only way it'll ever come back is if censorship in all its nasty glory reigns supreme (yeahhh...)

Having said that - There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a show that was intended for a different audience or target market. Hell, there's nothing wrong with getting collectibles or books or other swag that demonstrates your like of said show. I'd even encourage you to hang out with other people that share the same interest as you, because it's fun to share emotional highs with other people (amazing!)

There is a serious problem with that interest blossoming into a full-blown obsession, where you do nothing but live, eat, drink, sleep that idea. And making real life decisions that demonstrate how obsessed you are to the point where you do stuff that the rest of think is crazy batshiat insane. Marrying a cartoon pony, or attempting to, is crazy batshiat insane, and you -do- need professional help.

As far as trolls go... yeah, you guys been around longer than the non-trolls. When Urg found out what Ug and Thung were doing with the rock and harassed 'em non-stop for it by beating them upside the head with a club. All the internet's done is rename 'bully' to 'troll'.

Oh, and if you don't like the show? You're missing out, but I'm not going to say you have to OMGDROPEVERYTHINGGOWATCHRAINBOWDASHSHE'SSOCUTEOMGIWANTOMAKEHERMYWAIFU.  There's probably shows you like I don't. I'm cool with that too. Hating on someone for liking something you don't understand, though... welcome to kindergarten.
