FTA: Sassoon said: 'David spent a couple of years at a reform school near  Sundance, Utah. He came back to  Los Angeles but he still didn't seem  to fit in.'

In the book, Sassoon admitted he had not seen his son for 18 months following a rift and later he said: 'There's a certain point in my character where if I feel a situation is hopeless -  walk away. Don't torment yourself constantly. I walked away.'

"I mean look, I did everything I could.  I gave up on him and gave up on him and it never seemed to have any effect.  There's only so much giving up on a kid you can do before finally, you just have to smite him from the grave, amirite?"

Tom_Slick: gshepnyc: Excellent headline. Also - why would anyone want their final act on this Earth to be dickish, vindictive and ugly? Seriously.

Because some people are just assholes.

Why do people jump to this conclusion? While we may never know the situation, from the article it is quite apparent that father loved his son, and son was a trouble maker.

So...my take is that perhaps father spent enough money (lawyers fees, bail, whatever) trying to get son to be a good boy, and perhaps decided enough was enough. That father had already spent on son what son would have gotten as an inheritance, and giving him any more would be unfair to his other kids.

skinink: Not shocked that a guy who's been married four times would have a problem raising kids.

You can read the article and tell immediately what a sterling dad he was. He talks about how much trouble this kid ed from age two.

Well, it's your failure that a kid with issues grew up to be an adult with issues. Accept your failure, don't put it all on the boy. And don't be asshole about it.

Great headline.

'My son David Sassoon and his issue are hereby disinherited and shall take nothing under this will, and for the purposes of the will, shall be deemed to have predeceased me, leaving no surviving issue.'

So he actually put in his will, "you're dead to me."

Maybe the best gift he could have given the kid.

Devolving_Spud: My mom's best friend was a hair stylist in NY in the 1970's who said she worked for Vidal Sassoon.   All she would ever say about the experience was, "He's a real ASSH*LE."   She wasn't the sort of person to make stuff up, and if she said he was an a-hole, he probably was an a-hole.

Rich, famous, and powerful people are often assholes. They console themselves with giant piles of money and cocaine in their oceanside mansions.

His poetry was kind of depressing, but I admit that his shampoos keep my hair shiny and buoyant.
