Theres a lot of MRSA survivors on FARK. Hugs at you all.

VB, I'm on the other coast, but wish I had gone to the other side for one of your shindigs, having heard of your antics. May you enjoy many more beers, and I hope to hear of more misbehavior in the future.

But for now, hello kidneys, get to work.

I mean, FARK!

ElizaDoolittle: uttertosh: That is a great Fark name.  Handle, as it were.

heh.

I was in Scotland when I got stabbed, picking the infection up in the hospital. They isolated me until the infection was clear, then back in the main cardiothoracic ward for my physio. The great thing was that the socialised healthcare system in Scotland covered everything, including all prescriptions and 6 weeks physiotherapy. Felt quite guilty bout that, so I spent $100+ on fancy chocolates for the nurses.

You got lucky with the singleroom layout of that hospital. Real lucky. The blood-curdling noises that the cardiothoracic ward is known throw out are, imho, best experienced without getting to see exactly what's happening to the poor bastard making them.

....because it is impossible that anyone in the hospital reads fark and there is no way that this headline could land the nurses in a pot of hot water for their kindness.

RockofAges: Louisiana_Sitar_Club: ....because it is impossible that anyone in the hospital reads fark and there is no way that this headline could land the nurses in a pot of hot water for their kindness.

Is this seriously what we're worried about now?

My God what a bunch of blubbering got-damn pansies not only Fark has become but the internetizens in general.

The odds of this happening are 100000000000:1. Disciplinary action based on a squirreled away Fark post!

/Just donated to VB. Not much but I respect. Also, I like the prizes we're giving out.
//To the farker above who said it's not much like 2002. I was a poster back then as well and I couldn't agree more. Got the net in 93. Since then it's been year after year of pussification and hand-wringing as we surrender all activity to worrying about bureaucratic nonsense and things that are antithetical to the service of life.

More often than not, as long as you don't mistreat any of your nurses and you avoid causing enough of a ruckus that it angers the other patients, you're fine.

In general, the staff wants to promote happiness and joy--it makes their day a little brighter and (most importantly) it helps the patient recover faster.

In short, trust the staff to keep things organized and focus on healing.  Worrying about the bureaucratic BS is not something that any patient should have to do, so I agree that worrying about it on his behalf is unimportant.

For now, just send the good vibes and wishes for a speedy recovery.  Cheers!

Trying to post a pic from my phone but I am out in the middle of nowhere and the service is super slow.

At any rate, glad to hear that VB is on the mend, and that the Fark community responded with the volume of donations that were sent.

If you see this, hang in there buddy.

Just saying. This charity drive was for V_B and his family, not a "cause to be named later". Poor idea.

Just saying.

From the previous thread. You misunderstood me.  All of the donations go directly to v_b to cover his expenses. I'm just making it clear that any excess aren't going to turn into a drug-fueled weekend in Vegas.

Unless I'm invited, of course.

Ukab the Great: *sigh*

Once again this thread has been "popped to the top" by the powers-who-be and those-who-must-not-be-named.

Look...it's getting old. Don't get me wrong, I feel for this guy's plight but come on...five frickin' days of this? What's he need this money for? His fishmonger wife says they have health insurance. So where's it going? I want to see the scanned in hospital bills and I want an independent accountant handling this money in escrow.

Sorry, but I'm too suspicious to buy into this all at once. For all I know there's someone in Nigeria (Niger, please) rubbing his thin, bony hands together.

Do we have any proof this story is even for real?

Sigh.

It's real. V_B is one of the good ones...as evidenced by the love he's getting here. He is a long-time denizen of TFD. We take care of our own. You don't want to donate? That's fine. There are a number of former TFers that have become liters for one reason or another. It was almost certainly greened so that they could see it.   I do wish Drew would make an appearance and give you a proper set-down. It's his sandbox...and I guarantee he is cool with this.

It doesn't matter if Fred or Bob got the same email, you do not get the right to post them for the world to see. You are why we can't have nice things.

Sorry about the threadjack. Get better soon, so you can go home, and have a beer of whatever label you like whenever you like. I've donated once, and I'll try to send a few more bucks your way on Thursday.  :)

Well, hell.  Somebody tries to make a difference, then some jackass has to abuse the process and not accept a gift for what it is--a gift.  If she was trying to make a few bucks for herself off of her shots, I wouldn't necessarily be that upset, but this is not the kind of event that would make that action even remotely acceptable.  I hope that the offender is at least singled out and invited to go fark themself.

I declined the photos after my donation, but hopefully someone can do some tracking on her behalf.  There is at least one website (www.tineye.com) where you can either submit an image or a link to a known posting, and it will search the Internet on your behalf.  It isn't foolproof, from what I have found, but it is at least a tool to be used.  Please see what you can do to help her out.

*sigh*  Why can't the jerks just take a day off once in a while?

ElizaDoolittle: I hope VB gets well; obviously, nobody is to blame for contracting MRSA. But once you have contracted it, shouldn't you be isolated from the rest of the patients to contain the infection?

FWIW, it was posted in one of the prior threads that the infection is cleared up, and now his body is just trying to recover from the damage it did.  I think he was in ICU when he was actually battling the infection itself.

Yes that was the info posted, that the infection itself had been battled and cleared Since he's not in a bubble or wearing a mask or anything like that, it's assumed that the Infection Control folks know that he's OK to be out and about without risk (and hopefully going home soon!).

Don't talk to me about blood-curdling noises.  I was in for bowel obstruction.  Hadn't pooped in two weeks and was crippled with copious amounts of painful trapped gas.  They gave me some concoction that ensured I spend the entire night farting uncontrollably at high-decibel levels and shiatting vast quantities of two-week-old shiat.  If I'd had to do that in a bed pan, next to innocent patients, I would have self-defenestrated.  So not only did I get lucky with the private room, so did all the other patients.  Don't tell me you didn't send the chocs hoping to strike something up with that one pretty nurse.

Maybe after a few days they'll let him go home and continue an outpatient rehab program? I've heard of that happening, if he makes good progress and he remains stable. No one WANTS to keep patients in the hospital. They want to send them home. I'll cross my fingers for you guys.

v_b  - I really feel for you. I really do. I hope you get to read this thread (and the other ones that, no doubt, lie in TF)

If you have any change left over from your 'get well soon' fund, can I suggest investing in sponsorships for those in need? It'd be a swell gesture and prolly guarantee your place in heaven (lol)

(ps don't sponsor me, I'll just fritter it away in photoshop contests!)

kiwimoogle84: They want to send them home. I'll cross my fingers for you guys.

The problem with MRSA is that it is persistent and comes back quickly. When I was in the hospital, for 2 months, I was on IV antibiotics for 9 hours a day and had my blood tested for infection twice a day. The infectious disease doctor kept tweaking the type and dosages of the antibiotics often on a daily basis.

I was anxious to go home, as I'm sure V-B is, but waiting may be for the best.

I continued the IV routine at home with biweekly blood tests for a couple of months. I now get tested monthly and take oral antibiotics.

I can see that. I've never had that myself luckily but I know the routine with lots of other inpatient cases, so I can see that, for sure. Well, it was an optimistic guess. Hopefully they knock it out for good, and quickly.

And yeah, Uttertosh, no one NEEDS TF. What a silly suggestion.
