The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves: FTA: Olivia is a Writer-Producer at TIME. She graduated with honors from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism in May 2012

I wonder how it feels to graduate with honors from Columbia and then get a job at Time writing about lolcats, even if this is the most relevant story covered by Time in years.

Yes, heaven forbid she report on a meme, something that is actually a brand new area of study and of great interest to most young academics.

The time for studying memes is now. In the history of language and human culture, things have seldom progressed this quickly. Basically, lolcats are an important cultural meme. As much as you might not want to accept it, that's just the way it is. I know you might feel that, because the person studying it might be studying language, English, or history, that they might not deserve a mention, because their area of expertise isn't something practical like engineering. But they're the same people you wind up quoting to prove your point at some future academic (or even internet) discussion. So stop pitching a biatch.

I wish Tard's owners would take a DNA sample and start having grumpy clones made. I'd buy one without hesitation.

I have yet to reach peak Grumpy Cat, which is odd because I reached Kardash-saturation before they got a tv show.

StopLurkListen: videos? There are videos too?

Tardar Sauce is so awesome, she has her own YouTube channel and website. I hear she's also been licensed to Caturday and back and I know t-shirts are sold, and was mentioned upthread, this will help pay for Tardar Sauce and her brother Pokey to receive the best care possible. Cats with medical problems are expensive, as most of us in the Caturday threads can personally verify. Still cheaper than a human kid, though.

Somehow I am not sick of her yet, I love that damn cat.  Even when I'm having a shiat day (which is almost always) seeing Tard cheers me up.  Can't explain it, but that cat makes my day.

She isn't even a year old yet. We could still be looking at Grumpy Old Cat into the early 2030s.

//Tho my son's guinea pig is cool. I may post a picture of shy Brownie, who rarely pokes his nose out of his little plastic home.

Hawks kill more songbirds than cats do.

Nidiot: God-is-a-Taco: That poor cat.
Just kill it and put it out of its misery. It doesn't deserve this.

Or kills its owners. I guess that would be preferable.

I don't know why you think that cat is suffering so much. Aside from the occasional stress of a publicity tour, which doesn't happen everyday, it seems to be living a lovely relaxed life, where all its needs for food, shelter, love and affection are met. In fact, its life is a lot better than mine.

And on her latest tour she flew first class, and had her own personal assistant. Somehow I don't think Tard is suffering

It probably feels FANTASTIC because unlike 99% of journalism grads she has a job.

Wiseass: The burning question on my mind, is how much money is this cat (or its owner) bringing in from this?

Grumpy Cat has feline dwarfism and according to the last thread she's expected to have medical problems related to the dwarfism. These appearances will enable her owners to give her the best medical care possible.

Well, she's still working for Red Lobster as a waitress right now, so I guess the answer is "not enough".

Hopefully the girl is smart enough to use her (well, her cat's) 5 minutes of fame wisely, and invest all money earned in a way that will keep giving long after the tabloids have found a new shiny ball of string...
