How could she know a tree was there without sight and/or hearing?

2013-03-23 09:03:35 PM
Poor girl.  She never saw it coming.

2013-03-23 09:04:19 PM
Wow, I didn't know Helen Keller could see trees from her attic.

Was this the cherry tree that she chopped down because she could not tell a lie?

They should plant one at Galudet University -- it would be a good spot to honor such a luminary for deaf people.

2013-03-23 09:05:35 PM
I am more interested in seeing the propeller from her plane

2013-03-23 09:05:47 PM
I for one am glad her memory will live on. After beating the rap for axe murdering her parents she went on to become a legendary female aviator despite being deaf and mute. Such and inspiration!

I think it a fitting way to memorialize this brave pioneering woman. I only hope one day they find the wreckage of her plane.

Recall she did go across America planting apple seeds with her Ox Blue, before beating the mechanical drill with her pickaxe and fighting at the Alamo

Could someone please explain the Anne Frank/Helen Keller thing?  Is that something that originated here on Fark or was it already tucked away somewhere in our overall cultural psyche?

Because it makes complete sense to me, and I was aware of it before Fark was a spot in its daddy's drawers.

Just curious.

No, that was a chick who carried her kid in a papoose looking for the NW passage.

I don't see how a tree can be inspiring if all she did was hide in a cupboard...

She could've lived if she hid in the basement.  Just like that dude who surfed pieces of the WTC down and made it out.

Of course, he was a reptilian, but whatever

I assume they'll let the trees grow until they're big enough to cut down so America can mill them into more diaries.

FTA: The 11 U.S. locations, which also include a park memorializing 9-11 victims in New York City...

Winners were selected based on their commitment to equality, demonstration of the consequences of intolerance or historical significance to civil rights and social justice in the U.S., according to a news release from the center.

New York does not deserve one based on their killing of black people and their hideous "Stop and Frisk" policy. New York is committed to oppression, not equality.

fark New York.

Anne Frank was deaf and blind.
Helen Keller hid from the Nazis
Lizzie Borden is lost somewhere in the So Pacific
Amelia Airhart flubbed the Bunny Lebowski rescue (and was a terrific golfer, like Babe Didrikson)

Cool?

A little known historical fact: Not only did Anne Frank look out on the chestnut tree, but occasionally, she was able to reach outside and pick chestnuts to eat. Chestnuts are known to have a strong laxative effect, which explains her nickname.

2013-03-23 09:27:30 PM
I was actually hoping that Farkers would be sensitive for a change.  This is what Anne Frank looked out on, and people want to carry it on.  I guess I was wrong.  And disappoint.

I think subby's a little confused. It was a poor little deaf and blind Hitler who was hiding in that closet, until Anne Frank taught him how to say "wa-ter", and then he went on to kill Amelia Earhart, King of the Jews.

No, Clerks 2 is the one with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as angels.
The original Clerks is the one with the bowling on the roof of the convenience store.
