Serious questions: What does David Bowie do all day? We know he doesn't need money, so he's probably not going to a studio or working on tour stuff... so what is a typical Wednesday like at the Bowie household? Does he set an alarm clock or just sort of get up whenever he feels like it? How does he dress when it's just going to be him and Iman hanging around the (presumably awesome) house all day? I find myself wondering these sort of things anytime I hear a random DB song, and I'm hoping some Farkers (or Bowie himself, if he's a Farker) can shed some light.

Hi. I'm really David Bowie in real life and I can tell you that I am married to a super model an we pretty much run around the house naked all day.

Likely a good portion of the day is reading books.  When he was on tour, he always had crates of books with him.  He was also an early adopter of the internet - had his own ISP for a very long time.  So he's probably reading this thread on his iPod and having a laugh on his way to the fridge before getting back to, who knows, some Alastair Reynolds.

/seriously, he's a geek
//also, he'll probably be watching some Spongebob episodes with his daughter.

All of the articles I have ever read about his lyrics and thinking behind said lyrics read along the lines of "this song was based on an obscure episode from history in a book I read...."

David Bowie's average day.

Wake.

Watch bodies falling outside from hotel window while being interviewed for some magazine.
Coke break.
Acid.
Defy gender stereotypes and flirt with fascist ideology.
Coke.
Write a song in German.
Coke.
Flirt with Iggy Pop.
Coke & coke.
Record a song on the Synthi with Eno playing 'worm guitar' or whatever.
Coke.
Bed with Lori Maddox & Angie.
Coke.
No sleep.

Yes! I think playing Omikron was what got me obsessing about Bowie's daily life in the first place! I remember watching one of the in-game concerts, and I was picturing him recording his lines at some small studio somewhere in the English countryside. I imagined him going outside afterward and getting behind the wheel of some swank European car and driving off to meet other exotic people to do interesting things.

That's your evidence? He's continually re-inventing, but this time came out of retirement - it's obscuring one of his most iconic album covers to say that that era is over.  Here is the blank slate.  Here's the new thing he's doing.

Have your troll bite, but jesus, that's a really weak troll.

If you want to do something new, just do something new.  Don't "subvert" something old, just do something new.
That's what was great about old Bowie - he didn't need an ironic cover to separate Low from Aladdin Sane. The music did that.

The new music is OK, (though not nearly as good as Earthling), but that cover was just lazy and, worse, boring.  The sort of thing Madonna would do to show how in touch she was with modern art (as if so a half-assed pastiche of Duchamps even fit that description anymore).
