I would hate to work for the Malaysian embassy (or is it Indonesia?  Whichever one has the death penalty for essentially a speck of drugs) if I wasn't covered by diplomatic immunity.... yes, yes, yes, LethalWeapon.jpg

It is an imaginative way to raise funds you've got to admit. Maybe next they can go for tweaker tourism, the Amsterdam of the Orient...

It's been a valid way for governments to raise cash for a very long time. Even the CIA has done and probably still does it.

That's pretty much the whole reason they're making their diplomats do it. Any country that's a corrupt, third-world shiathole abuses the hell out of diplomatic immunity.

Can we just kill everyone in NK already? If you compare the suffering inflicted through eradicating their population and the suffering inflicted on future generations by lettting them keep on as they are, it's the compassionate thing to do.

We mustn't wait until the smoking gun comes in the form of a meth lab explosion.

Maybe so, but.  The article begins that it may sound crazy but there is a good reason to believe it is true.  Then the article proceeds to basically give no reason to believe it is true.   once upon a time, the washington post was a good newspaper.  Now they just publish stuff that bloggers pull directly out of their asses.

As long as they cut the Chinese military in on the deal, it's cool.  The PLAN is semi infamous for bringing up drugs from SE Asia on their warships.  It's been cynically suggested that China has the death penalty for drug trafficking, not because they care about the drugs, but because the military and some others are unhappy about the competition.  As long as the drugs are only sold in certain circles and result in nothing beyond dead peasants/migrant workers and the government gets paid off to ignore the drugs, China doesn't actually get overly excited about drug sales.  They have too many of those anyway.  For that matter if you're selling mostly to a troublesome minority, the Han might give you a medal.  You only really get in trouble if you're selling them outside of black market channels controlled by certain entities.

/there are photos of Mao inspecting opium farms in Yunnan because the commies funded operations with the proceeds
//of course the KMT was also involved in importing it up from Burma
/there was also an odd incident in 2009 where the Thai military opened fire on a Chinese Patrol Boat, initially claiming that they say the boat loading drugs, after some pressure from China the Thais announced that their soldiers were actually working for a drug lord illegally as a side job and they opened fire on the Chinese boat because the Chinese were about to seize cartel assets

Reading the whole article the numbers I read say $300,000/44 pounds that makes a little over $6800/pound. Now admittedly it's been 25 years since I bought drugs of any kind but isn't that a little low?

Heroin comes from the opium poppy which is only grown in hot climates.

Meth can be made anywhere and is also cheaper.
