Drew is too important and busy partying to bother getting us a TSA tag.. go back to your pathetic life citizen

NOW it feels like a democracy.

I haven't had anything close to a bad experience with the TSA. I think it's because I don't have a sense of entitlement that a lot of flyers seem to have.

And when you get to 21 it will still be more than you've ever flown before.  In other news bigger numbers are bigger.

The point, you missed it.kab: UncleStumpy: I think it's because I don't have a sense of entitlement that a lot of flyers seem to have.

The sense of entitlement to pay money for a ticket and not be hassled throughout the process of getting on the farking airplane?   That one?

Answer the questions honestly and politely and you won't have a problem 99 percent of the time.

and NEVER stare down the supervisor when you are in line... you'll get that 'special' screening...

orbister: Kahabut: My Windows laptop cost about 2000$ (it was nearly exactly that).  It boots from cold to my desktop in 15 seconds.  It runs every existent piece of software (yep, even that one), and it has features I doubt you've ever even heard of.  It was a business expense, and I got to write it off.

I bet it has mapping software which lets you get to the gym in 26 minutes, too.

lolwut?  stealing ANYTHING will get you immediately fired from 9 out of 10 jobs out there.  stealing 2 grand worth of stuff from a customer?  that's a no-brainer 'shiatcan the shiatbag' situation.

I think Amos is being ironic.  At least I hope so.
The guy wasn't fired, he resigned.

Isn't stealing a $2,000 item a felony in Florida?

Not when a government employee does it.

Amen, fellow farker!!!  I am going to Florida in June for my great-great niece's 1st birthday and I have decided to rent a car and drive down rather than fly and lose my credit card or any cash I would like to take with me.  Screw the TSA!  And YES!!! they should be first in line for the budget cuts.

Might fly home tho, after I have spent all my money and burned through my credit card (prepaid)  LOL

Arctic Phoenix: Doesn't surprise me.  In any large organization, there will be thieves.  Whether it's office supplies, laptops, jewelry, or any other item, there are thieves in every industry, and every workplace that employs more than a handful of people (and even small businesses occasionally have a problem with theft).  Doesn't make it okay by any means, but it shouldn't be surprising.  I'd be curious to know how often airline employees steal from passengers as well.

There does need to be a reform of the current system, imo.  Security will never go away, so fighting against the TSA itself is a pointless endeavor, but the hiring practices the government currently uses needs to change.

But this is what you get when you offer low pay, a stressful work environment (I hate being in an airport for a couple of hours for a layover, I couldn't imagine spending 8+ hours of my day 5 days a week there), etc.

Yea I agree with you here. Even at the small organization I work for we had some problems with some employee(s) stealing. Now they actually keep extra computers and ink locked up. And they have changed some hiring practices.

Seems very unlikely.  Randall Scott King, the TSA Officer who used his badge to abduct and rape a woman, didn't serve any time.  Jail is for little people, i.e. civilians.

I would wager TSA agents, gate checkers at any rate, are considered civilians despite the "officer" label.  The other sub-sections are more like a military offshoot(IE air marshals, inspectors), but your average screener is just like any other civilian employee, same as any other body for hire security.  Minimum employment standards and little to no power outside their workstation.
(IE cops/military/etc all have some heavy standards to live by, and are required to do certain things even in their off time)
I doubt they'd get any kind of veteran status, as they're more employees and less service members.  Also, it seems like it would be a dead end job, IE no real room for career advancement(unlike all other service branches that come to mind).  It's not like the screeners will move on up the ladder to Marshal or something of the sort.

Just sayin'  Still a shiatty deal they get away with shiat.

I paid 2 grand for a laptop that had a lot of stuff, like Perl and Python pre-installed. When I downloaded Ruby into it, I typed, oh, two or three command lines, and got Ruby. I have a Windows machine and the only thing I seem to be able to do with it is factory reset it every six months because the OS buggers itself into oblivion.

My (not a mac) laptop cost that much, and has a similar security program on it.  Paying for a high quality, high power laptop is not that odd.  I'm guessing you are just young.

currency has never equated to quality. I hope people realize that's a cognitive bias and not based on facts when it comes to a mac, right? Considering you could get a laptop with identical hardware for less than $1000?

if you're spending $2000 on a laptop today, you're using it wrong. Desktop replacement laptops are pretty terrible.
