Damn, for a minute there I thought they'd formed a panel to study hipster d-bag glomming onto formerly affordable brands and making them upscale trendy items.

As they did with PBR.

Whatever. I won't be doing any bingeing no matter how hard MicroSoft pushes it.

Google FTW.

Bingeing is a stupid looking word.

It was a sad day when Pabst tallboy four packs went from $3 to $3.50

That's forward-thinking: form a commission on student drinking.  In the year that the state legalizes pot.

Because they only made the weekend at the end of the week instead of spreading it out?

For hipsters.

Maybe it's because whoever decides these things has declared that having 5 or more drinks is 'binge drinking'.
Having more than 5 or more drinks in a sitting is what college students have been doing ever since there have been universities.

Idiots.  They put a major college in the middle of nowhere - what did they think was going to happen?

How about lowering the drinking age to 18 and opening a bar on campus. After a week of getting drunk every night it will settle down as drinking stops being this taboo and sexy thing and just becomes a way to feel crap the following day

/most Universities in Britain have a student run bar on campus
//don't any more of an issue with booze than the rest of society

If I started drinking at 7:30 with dinner and had five PBRs before I left at midnight... I'd be sober. That's not binge drinking.

Legalize alcohol and keep pot illegal.  That way the relatively harmless drug is sexy and the dangerous drug is what the old fogeys use.

They should also study why water is wet, sky is blue, why the wind blows and why, when you drop a piece of toast, it always falls buttered side down.

Hell, depending on what counts as a "sitting" or whatever you might not even get that drunk. A 6-pack over a couple hours is worse for your waistline than your liver.

Pot isn't legal here for most college aged students, just like beer isn't.

I have had lots of friends from the university and the ones who got in trouble were inevitably 18-20 anyway.

So much money and effort gets wasted trying to prevent young people from doing stupid things. The irony is that doing stupid things is what young people are for. Nobody has ever gotten wise from not making mistakes.

After reviewing WSU's data and surveying students, several reasons have been identified for the rise of binge drinking, Wright said. They include wide availability of inexpensive alcohol near campus, drinking games, energy drinks and Internet culture.

So...the internet is why college students drink?  Must be why it never happened before 1990.

Jesus tap-pogo-dancing Christ on a crueller, you'd think they'd at least consider local legends like Olympia or Rainier ale.

I don't know how someone could actually get drunk on normal beer.  At least with me, I'd be so damn full after 5 beers I couldn't possibly drink any more.
