NeedlesslyCanadian: Must be nice not having to work for a living.

Pretty much this.

The way he handles it is a lot how I like to think I'd do it. I'd enjoy the acting and such but I'd be eager to move on to other things when the time came instead of doing the same thing again, and of course being able to afford to do it all is what would make walking away possible.

In reality though I'd probably go full Lohan or maybe even Sheen the hell out of it...

"Normal life" of a multi generational trust fund baby perhaps. Although to be fair he DID earn his, & if he managed to get a lifetime's worth of earnings done in his first 17 years or so then more power to him.

2013-03-23 07:55:29 AM
I used to have a huge crush on him.

2013-03-23 08:10:54 AM
He seems like a cool dude.  I sure as hell would not mind having a conversation with him at the bar.

Good for him for not having crazy, coke and hooker filled nights.  I just do not grasp how most childhood actors live a normal life, then you get Amanda or Lindsay who go off the farking rails...

The kid who played Tommy on 3rd Rock is Joseph Gordon-Levitt???

Yeah, pretty interesting to go watch that show now between him and having watched John Lithgow on Dexter

Fun Fact: Tim Allen's last name is Dick.

I don't think that's fair. He did work - he just worked early and then retired. It's not like he inherited the money and has never done anything.

I couldn't stand that show but Tim Allen gets a lifelong pass for Galaxy Quest. Don't know why it didn't have any sequels, I thought it did pretty well.

2013-03-23 11:22:14 AM
I'm kind of surprised he was able to just walk away.  Do you all remember how crazed the tweens were for him?  It was JTT mania for a few years.

7 years of work for enough residuals that he effectively hasn't had to work since 1998? Nice work if you can get it.

Tim is the voice of Buzz Lightyear and he was in the best Star Trek movie ever made, so he's pretty much the definition of "winning".

I watch Last Man Standing and I loved Home Improvement and I was surprised and delighted to see him on last night's episode. There's been a couple eps with Al as well.

I suspect everybody's going to show up eventually.

It's probably like Zombieland, with one of those casts that are just so good it is impossible to get them back together again because of their huge success afterwards without blowing the budget.

I watched it again not too long ago, and never realized that Rainn Wilson was one of the aliens. Even the smaller parts had some great actors.

According to google, which just spit it out at the top of the page, hes 5'5", compared to Tom Cruises 5'7"...

I loved part of an interview where he got one of his first drama movie roles (Manic) and he thanked the director for giving him the role despite him working on the last season of a sitcom..  He said the director replied "Wait, you're on a sitcom?"

Right? I mean, the dude didn't cure cancer, but he didn't set out to. He was a wildly successful child actor that managed to transition into adulthood, as opposed to just being a self-absorbed sack of shiat for the rest of his life (see: Lindsey Lohan, Amanda Bynes, Dustin Diamond, etc.)

Hell, aside from Tim Allen, he's probably the most productive and successful actor from that show, and he doesn't even act anymore. JTT, your fame might have kept me from being able to touch some boob in the 8th grade (all the girls in my class were absolutely infatuated with him, they even had JTT promise rings...man I don't miss that hick town...), but you seem to be a solid dude, so you're forgiven.

I read all of that in Simba's voice.

At least he has a degree from Harvard and an MBA from Columbia and isn't a drugged out has-been like the other kids in that show.

Same with me and my wife. I don't know what it is, but that show always has me cracking up. Maybe cause I watched Home Improvement as a kid. And yeah it's been cool seeing some of the old co-stars so far. I loved the "oh yeah" growl Tim made last night heh heh.

And honestly, I could watch an hour long episode every night if it just had Tim, Kyle, and Ed for the whole thing. That actor who plays Kyle does amazing deliveries.

Ongoing curiosity to see how they write in everyone else.

We have the technology and resources to have a much shorter workweek for the same living standard. We chose not to, or at least we are programmed to not see it.

If only because it proves (and I had my doubts) that Sigourney Weaver has boobs.

Agreed.

Given the deliberate and mature change of circumstances in the show, perhaps it has a deliberate arc and will end after a few seasons on purpose.

Sigourney Weaver has boobs, but Ellen Ripley has a bigger set of balls than any of us could ever hope for.

If you didn't have much a childhood, would you say "it must be nice?"

I'm sure there are bad sides to it.
