That's not a bad line though.

Just to show how weasely he is and how stupid NBC is, when he stabbed Conan in the back he negotiated a new contract with the network that basically makes them pay him a bazilllion dollars if they end his show before the contract expires in 2014. So they couldn't afford to dump him early for Fallon even if they wanted to.

Lighten up you whiny bastards, that was a good line.

You know, it is so fashionable to take a shot at Jay Leno. Look, the fact is the man is out there every night with fresh material... and he's charming!

If America wasn't ready for Conan at 11:30, wait until they see Jimmy Fallon. That stuff isn't going to play in Peoria.

I think Conan is the guy for the job when Letterman retires from the Late Show.

It would be a better audience match.

That said, none of the current crop had Johnny's ability to step out of the way and let the guests be themselves.  All the shows are about the host.

Mr. Coffee Nerves: A lot of money and effort over "Who will older people without DVRs fall asleep to?"

Because that demo makes them a stupid amount of money, apparently.  Doesn't really matter how lame we think it is, the networks wouldn't be scrabbling like rats on a shiat pile if that timeslot/setup didn't make them money.

1) So the only way to get more people to watch Conan is to have Letterman retire?

2) Yeah but don't forget that during his last 10 years or so Carson would shamlessly mug for the camera darned near every chance he had; that is not 'letting the guests be themselves'. It is however 'First Class Attention Whoring'.

Nice line. I will have to use it during my divorce proceedings. Anywho...

There is a movie on Netflix that I stumbled on... it follows Conan shortly after they screwed him over. He ended up going on a comedy tour and I guess that it became a kind of therapy for him. It is pretty dark, too. He had a lot of anger. But it is definitely worth a look. Got a better take on his side of the matter than any newspaper/ fluff newscast did.

Found it... like I said, it is pretty dark, but I did gain a new respect for the guy...

Now that the writing is on the wall for Jay, he gets his edge back. If he kept this all the way back in '92, he wouldn't be the walking punchline he is today.

Yup, I've got the DVD. I've been a Conan fan for almost his entire 20 years on the air, and miss the hell out of him since i don't have cable, and only occasionally catch him online. That movie is really an interesting look into his life on the road and what happened. A seriously great moment in time to capture.

God no. Somebody that smug and one-dimensional should not get TG. Sure, Clarkson does the smug thing on the original, but I can't picture Leno being a good sport about it getting him by his own petard.
