Actually scary in a way. Any time her heart beats too rapidly she has a histamine reaction? And she's got small children? That's going to make life difficult.

When you can't get your heart rate up without a reaction, there are a lot of things that should be enjoyable that become anxiety-producing panic attacks.

Then there's the part where you watch yourself gain weight and know that there is nothing you can do besides creatively starve.

And the neat part where doctors have no clue about this.

csb?

Hey Jorb Creators: do you have an employee making six figures who acts like this?  If so, why don't you fire their lazy disadvantaged backside and hire a physically active person like, erm, me?

FTA:"Cardone explained it, people with the condition may be able to eat peanuts or shellfish with no reaction and they may also be able to exercise with no problem. But if they eat peanuts or shellfish before they exercise, it triggers an attack. "

So essentially this is all BS and her allergy is to peanuts and/or shellfish. Naturally it should be blamed on the thing that isn't tasty and requires effort.

Throw defective babies off a cliff? How will you know ahead of time that they're allergic to exercise?

I have pretty severe exercise-induced asthma.  It does not kick in until I get over about 170 bpm which takes me some fairly intense activity to hit; so not much risk of hitting it doing day-to-day activities.  Exercise is still totally possible, but it can be a real pain to have to be so careful all the time.  I have to use a heart rate monitor and be careful to keep my heart rate from getting too high.  Sports have always been right out though; which really sucked when I was a kid.

I would imagine the woman from the article would be similar.  She should be able to keep fit if she keeps the intensity low.  Worrying about not being able to chase after your kid if they run into the street would be the big concern I would imagine.

Have (had??) Exercise Induced Urticaria so I'm getting a kick etc..

I had my first outbreak about 4 years ago.  It was especially bad on a cool day, in those few minutes after you start exercising and just before you start to sweat.  The itching was so intense all I wanted was some steel wool to scrape off all my skin to just make it stop.  It still would itch on a hot day when I would sweat, but it was nowhere near as bad as when it was cool.

Doctor boosted my medicine for acid reflux (Prilosec and Pepcid) and that seemed to reduce the effects.  If I forgot my medicine I would get itchy.  Went vegan a couple months ago, lost a bunch of weight, and have forgotten my medicine on a few occasions with no ill effects.  I work out 4-5 times a week or so.  No problems.

//it sucks, you can use it as an excuse, and let it hold you back, or you can go on with life.

But it's the only way to find out if they're allergic to being thrown off a cliff.

I have exercise induced urticaria as well. As long as I don't push myself too hard, I don't get hives. Also, I take Zytec every day. That seems to help.

And liquid benadryl for the times that the hives come on anyway. That stuff is MAGIC!

stuff: I have pretty severe exercise-induced asthma.

My wife has a moderate case of it.  She takes asthma meds and has a rescue inhaler, which helps a lot.  She also has allergic reactions to some aerosols, and cigarette smoke.

The interesting thing is, she doesn't have a reaction to cigar or pipe smoke, which makes me wonder if there's some additive in most cigarettes that she's allergic to, once those particulates are in the smoke.
