Went 12/16 yesterday and still have 1740ppr. With any luck today will go a bit better. Granted, I tend not to pick upsets. I think it's a foolish waste. Pick the wrong upset and you're basically out twice as many points.

THIS. I love the people who have the logic that, "you can't pick all 4 1-seeds to make it to round x in the tournament.  It rarely happens" which is fine and dandy and very true if you know exactly which 1-seed won't make it that far, but if you pick the wrong one, you missed out twice.

I usually pick close to the chalk for brackets that are round 1 = 1pt, round 2 = 2pt, etc.  The best pools I've been in are ones where you draft teams.

I've loved seeing the small Virginia schools - VCU, Old Dominion, Richmond, and, of course, my law school alma mater, George Mason - do so well in the last few years. Now if only Bucknell had gotten its head out of its ass this year...

This is obviously a librul conspiracy since Obama went to law school there.

Still trying to figure out why Harvard is playing in the Western bracket.

And while Harvard students can play basketball, they still haven't learned how not to pee on their hands.

Recently, it's the Virginia schools with a reputation for being shot up.

I had New Mexico playing in the championship game. Oops.

Alright since when does Harvard have a team without 5 skinny white guys running the Princeton offense? That wasn't the Ivy League I grew up on.

Maybe.  The RPI stat is doing them no favors.  They get wildly overranked, like the whole conference.  Looking at you, too, UNLV.

You and me both. What a bunch of asses - that's the worst three-point defense I've seen EVER.

At least my CSU Rams got their first tourney win in 24 years. And for that effort, they get Louisville in the next round. Whee. Glory be to the Mountain West - you've screwed the pooch again (oh, and thanks, UNLV).

Glad I wasn't the only one.  PPR is down to 1600.  That's what I get for being a MWC homer.

In a sense, you're right. UNM should have been a 2, especially since people legitimately think Gonzaga is a 1. CSU should have been a 6, and UNLV should NOT have been a 5 (probably a 6 or 7).  Of course, given UNM's penchant for shiatting the bed in the tournament, they probably would have lost as a 2 anyway.

So it's down to CSU and San Diego State, and SDSU is probably going to get their asses kicked by Oklahoma today to set up CSU outrebounding Louisville by 15 and losing by a dozen.

Sigh.

To think that as an Arizona alumn/fan I was actually slightly nervous about the new mexico team. . Wow did they look bad. The mighty MWC got overseeded and lost, pac12 got underseeded and has first conference to advance 2 12 seeds.

RPI is such a worthless stat.  All kinds of ways it gets things wrong, and BOOM - it helped make the case MWC teams were much better than they were.

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: RPI is such a worthless stat.  All kinds of ways it gets things wrong, and BOOM - it helped make the case MWC teams were much better than they were.

The main issue was that the SoS didn't consider any Division 2 teams,of which the MWC played something like 40.  So they got credit for the W, but it didn't affect their SoS, hence propping up their RPI.

2013-03-22 10:49:28 AM
So I guess everyone was right calling the Mountain West overrated.  BTW - blanking, who was the CBS analyst who picked the Lobos for the Final Four?

2013-03-22 11:07:43 AM
When I saw the news I was happy because Harvard winning in the tourney is pretty cool. Then I remembered that they played New Mexico, who I had going to the Final Four.

Oh well. It's not like I follow college sports even 10% as closely as I follow pro.

It was much simpler when I was going to SDSU between 2000-2004. The basketball team sucked so bad they couldn't even give the tickets away for free. Plus the Cox arena (is it still called that?) has one of the worst designs ever.

Hear, hear!

When Alford is involved, #3 seeds now have a .250 winning percentage over #14 seeds.

Why was NM such a trendy final four pick?

For west coast games most analysts simply look at W/L records, they don't actually watch the games.  That is why there is an East Coast bias in seeding.

Also the MWC padded their schedule with D2 schools that help their RPI, but don't hurt their SoS.

RPI and/or SOS was 2.
That's why I threw them into my Bullshiat Bracket. Luckily I had them no getting past 16 in my Bracket of Integrity.

It's Viejas Arena now. Show some Aztec pride, bro! SDSU is still getting used to regularly being invited to the dance. Eventually they will be consistent...someday...maybe...once the team is ripped from Fisher's cold, crypt keeper hands

Funny, Harvard gets a win after finally finding some big smart black kids to play inside.

FUNNY.
