Well, they've got that whole pedophilia thing in common.

It would have been cool if Francis had instead chosen the name "Batman".  Pope Batman I.

I don't know why people insist Batman and Robin had a gay relationship. Is it so wrong for a grown man to adopt a young man who just lost his parents and take him into his house and feed him and clothe him and teach him martial arts and perhaps occasionally drug him and play with his testacles while Albert gives you a rimjob in your bat suit?

It's going to be a very sad "I told you so" when some sick dumbass assassinates this Pope.

Talk about not getting it. Their excuse made no sense at all.

FTA: It has as its headline: "Holy Switcheroo! Batman has grown bitter, more vengeful with the years" and details the evolution of the Batman comic franchise.

That seems like it could simply be the intro to a piece that compares the evolution of a popular comic book superhero with the attitudes of society past and present. Naturally served with a gigantic dollop of "blah blah we have lost our way yada yada need more religion in our lives."

The article also states that the Batman piece only got so much attention coz it was accidentally ranked #1 lead story on their feeds. Church officials knew that.... yet they serve up some cock'n'bull story blaming the metaphorical "Chinese exchange student."

What the fark has English-as-a-second-language got to do with this? I'm genuinely confused and amused. I read it three times to make sure I wasn't going crazy.

Either Church officials are just dithering old men who don't understand technology, and don't even know what the hell they are supposed to be clarifying.... or they are deliberately muddying the waters with the strangest excuse ever, as if it's their automatic position to start bullshiating, even though the truth is a perfectly understandable glitch.

FTA: The other stories on the website are much more church-oriented in nature.

The catholic church lying should not be a surprise to anyone, they have a 2000 year track record on it. Personally I'm surprised on those rare occasions when the church actually tells the truth.

Well, Bruce Wayne did spend a lot of time alone in a cave with his meaty twink ward, Dick Grayson. And they helped each other into fabulous costumes, so I can understand the Vatican's interest in the story.

If the story is true, then perhaps the English-as-a-second-language person was simply scanning headlines, saw the word 'holy', and assumed that it would be a relevant article?

I work with a student who has severe deficiencies in reading comprehension, which obviously affects his understanding of words with alternate meanings. For his high school health class, he was told to find a magazine article about nutrition and/or eating disorders. He brought in an article titled, "Local field hockey team hungers for a perfect season."  He did not realize that 'hunger' was being used figuratively, not literally, and thought the field hockey girls had a literal appetite that would be sated by eating a perfect season.

So, the mistake is possible for someone with a poor grasp of the English language.

/Or the article, and my student, are both full of shiat
