Researchers checked samples of millipedes from the same scientific family, and sure enough, they glowed too.

That's funny. I opted out of the Alcatraz tour last Monday with friends for lack of time on a day visit with friends. Had I known this, I could have grabbed a black light and tried to hitch a ride with these yahoos  and had a different type of night visit. Oh well.

Headline is misleading. They don't give off their own light. They fluoresce when illuminated with ultraviolet light. So, still no bioluminescent animal species in California.
