rickythepenguin: Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: actually score the basketball

PHRASE I HATE DETECTED!

i hate how in vogue this term has become in college and pro.  "____ can really score the ball!!!!"  what else are they gonna score?

It's right up there with "So-and-so is out with an ankle". No, he's out due to injury. Everybody else is participating just fine with an ankle. Many of them even have 2 ankles.

Jeez, that's a killer for Bucknell.

Calm the hell down, dude.  What else can you do with a basketball?  Many things.  You can clank it off the rim, for example.

Also: although I picked Butler to get to the Sixteen, Paul Ryan looks too much like their coach for me to root for them now. I keep picturing him on a weight bench with his hat backwards.

"really important third down"

Do you watch sports?  Every one of these terms has value.

'High basketball IQ' -- some smart people are not smart ball players - they do not know where to position themselves, do not know how to rotate, or do little things like box out properly.  Some players are naturally intelligent in game terms, some learn.

'he's long' -- you may realize that some people have longer arms than others, right?  Combined with height, this can be especially difficult to deal with for an offensive player.

'first down... and more!' -- I don't understand the disgust with this.  Play-by-play guys call the action live, when it is unclear whether a play will be stopped.  This call usually happens when a back breaks a tackle and is able to bust free.

'really important third down' -- depending on time of game, position on the field, and potentially how many yards are needed for the down...  a third down can easily be much more important in a game.  Keeping a drive alive with 5mins left to go is hardly of the same middling magnitude as one early in the game, right?

Perfect brackets remaining in ESPN Tournament Challenge (~8.14 million entries) after game concludes:

Michigan State over Valpo  -7,806,620
Butler over Bucknell - 6,321,459

FWIW, I've lost my old records, but I have my records from the past two tourneys. In both '11 and '12, the last perfect brackets were destroyed sometime Friday afternoon/evening (I think 27-0 and 23-0). I THINK someone finished the first round intact a number of years ago (and then it all went to hell). Also, be sure to check CBS and Yahoo, but the final perfect bracket has almost always been ESPN just because they have so many more.

It was bullshiat. His brother was managing one of those group bracket things that you can change after the fact, since they're not in the national contest. Changed it for him.

During one of the NFL threads, some announcer referred to a WR- maybe Eric Decker?- as "A real Wes Welker type". Said WR was about 6'5". We spent the next 15 minutes rehashing every announcer cliche for "this guy's white".

High football IQ, a real gym rat, student of the game, a high-motor guy...
