Update, 8:30 a.m. Thursday:

Original post, 9:18 p.m. Wednesday:
Two men shot and killed themselves Wednesday after being interrupted during an attempted burglary in a rural area south of Maypearl, officials said.

Ellis County Sheriff deputies responded to a call from a home in the 2100 block of Bee Creek Road at about 12:20 p.m. A woman had witnessed two armed men trying to break into her home before calling her husband.

After reaching the house, the husband yelled at the men and grabbed a gun, authorities said. The suspects ran toward a field while firing toward the house. The husband, who suffered a superficial gunshot wound, fired after them, according to the sheriff's office.

One of the suspects was found dead in an adjacent field. He had several gunshot wounds and is believed to have shot himself. The second suspect was found in a nearby pickup that was reported stolen in Oklahoma. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, said officials, who did not release the men's names.

Wait, the home owner returned fire but they automatically assumed it was the two guys that shot each other?

"The husband, who suffered a superficial gunshot wound, fired after them"

Any money his superficial wound was a point blank shot in the shoulder?

Does it really matter who shot who?  However, it happened it seems that the problems solved and that's all that really matters.

Maybe they were burglars who lived by the code of Bushido and couldn't stand the shame they brought on their ancestors by getting caught. I can respect that.

Pretty much, THIS....two known scumbags are dead, victims are okay ("superficial" gunshot wound notwithstanding), all's well that ends well.

That seems the likeliest scenario. Depressed teens decide to turn to crime to finance whatever stupid scheme they have (probably some Columbine-style mass shooting). One of them gets shot by the homeowner while running away (RTFA about the exchange of gunfire), realizes he's too badly wounded to escape, can't bear the thought of PMIA prison and offs himself. The other one, despondent about his dead buddy, offs himself. Happens all the time, farkup teenagers finding permanent solutions to temporary problems.

No it's not.  Who the hell is going to pay to bury them?  Or do you just toss them in the fire?

stand your ground! and if they run away... well, they are probably still a threat to someone, somewhere as long as they're still breathing.

Stupid kids. The most profitable kind of robbery involves a briefcase and a nice suit, not a gun. Dumbasses.

It's like the sheriff's office is bending over backwards to make excuses for a guy that had a legitimate reason for shooting those punks.

Armed kids try to break into home.
Kids shoot at homeowner.
Homeowner returns fire.
Kids found dead.
I have no problem with this.
And if you're upset that two fleeing kids were killed, remember, if you're shot and killed by a kid, you're just as dead as if you were shot by a thug with lots of prison time and a rap sheet as long as your arm.

Considering they were firing at him as they ran away, they were still a threat, did you miss the part that the homeowner had a gunshot wound?

Either way, who cares?  two wastes of humanity are dead.   this is an improvement.

The runner shot back at the homeowner.  Essentially creating a firefight.  The homeowner had the right to return fire even if he was running.  Self-defense, how does it work?

And shooting at you.  It's not like they were just fleeing, Skip.  Shooting at someone kinda opens the door to getting shot at in return.

What? Where?

I don't have any problems whatsoever with the idea that the homeowner killed both of them (even if they were running away) but that just sounds like a bad film script you've just laid out there.

No it doesn't!  Everybody knows as soon as you start running away, guns magically lock up and can no longer be fired in any direction exception forward.  If he had an assault style AK 15 with an assault style clip with 1 billion baby killer round capacity, I bet he could have killed the entire town and the home owner too.  So we need to ban gay weddings immediately.  Derp!

Or it could be the charred bullet hole under the chin and the pistol lying there. Just because he inflicted the other bullet wounds doesn't mean he did a coup de grace.

Meh; I'm not too concerned. They stole pills and guns from their homes and ran away. For all we know; they got disoriented in the darkness and shot at the things moving in the dark, not knowing that they were shooting at each other.
