(Politico)   What does it say about Obama that he has time to complete a March Madness bracket, but not fix the economy? And what does it mean that he chooses some teams over others? An American president who favors some at a whim -- Imperial President, indeed   (politico.com) divider line 91

They think he actually picks the bracket himself? The intern who answers his mail does that.

Also two other things to take notice of: Obama avoided picking any of the all-white basketball teams...just another example of him pandering to the black community.  He also only picked college teams to win, showing his favoritism toward his ivory tower, elitist, college-educated supporters.

MindStalker: timujin: I forget, who is supposed to come up with the federal budget?

Constitutionally the House. They have met this, and come up with several budgets that are filled with poison pills and wouldn't pass the Senate.

In general the President is supposed to come up with a roadmap for the budget. The constitution states that he "shall... recommend to [Congress's] consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient." Obama has done that, but he hasn't given them a budget they can pass either. Mainly because it says Obama on the top.

So if I understand this correctly, it's the Senate that is holding up the process?  I mean, if they don't like what's in the budget, they could always pass it up to Obama and let him deal with it.  Maybe then he wouldn't have so much time to spend on brackets and Lindsey Graham could spend less time whining and more time washing the sand out of his vajayjay.

Jackson Herring: the president's budget is never done on time in the same way the red sox never score enough touchdowns to win a game

I watch so little of my entertainment in the form of sports that it took me several minutes to get the joke.

It would get fillibustered by Republicans, even if it came out of the Republican controlled house. I.forget who it was, but there was a Republican Senator who either fillibustered or at least voted against his own bill.

Uh....

1) That he isn't in charge of the economy (true) and doesn't have the authority or power to overturn a decade of financial inertia (idiot Keynesian economists)
2)  He practices contextual judgement and recognizes relative worth (a good thing).

He wan't my pick for president, but Jeez.  How about some understanding of reality before deciding to get righteously pissy about it?

"Imperial."  I do not think that means that you think it means.

Yeah, I remember that, though I believe he was tricked into submitting it.  It was quite humorous.  My point, though, is that Graham is a whiny biatch who is complaining about the very thing he himself is doing.

GiantRex: Last time I checked, there was no way for the GOP to filibuster the president's bracket choices. Maybe that's why he gets it done on time every year.

Don't worry, I hear Boehner is looking to introduce new legislation that will take care of the pesky inability of not being able to block the President's bracket picks.

It was Mitch McConnell. He submitted a bill to vote thinking the Democrats would never vote for it. They said "OK, we'll vote for it" and he then had to filibuster his own submission to avoid bringing it to a vote.. Classic.

My question is less an actual question and more a challenge to all the subbys following the republican policy of denial. They must keep insisting there is something wrong with the economy regardless of the truth. Clearly, there is nothing wrong with it. My theory is this is just setting up 2016... so they can point to the unsubstantiated claims of failure to recover from Bush's disaster. "Look at all the reality-free claims I've been making since 2009! The Democrats just can't handle the economy!"

Because really, they take about the same amount of time, what with the Republicans breaking your pencil after each bracket entry is written.

It doesn't take any time at all to write down "tax breaks for job creators, cut funding that might help blah people." Obummer is just dragging his feet because he hates the American people.

Pocket Ninja: He makes time to complete his bracket because his bracket is the means by which he communicates with the NSIS. Secret coding throughout the entire form allows him to transmit key information annually to his handlers overseas while simultaneously appearing to be engaged in a most American activity. The translation key is incredibly complex, and works on multiple levels, but as an example from his most current bracket (and I'm really stunned he'd be this brazen; I think he's getting a little overconfident since it's been working so long), look at his final four picks:

Louisville, Florida, Ohio State, Indiana

Now, aside from telling us that the president has shiatty taste in basketball teams, what does this say? Well, the obvious key is to read the initials: L, F, OS, I. That's meaningless, of course, because you're not reading them in the correct direction (hint: right to left). So what it really should be is F, L, I, OS.

See? Flios. Google it, if you've never heard of the organization, and then ponder what this might mean for all of us.

And that's just the tiniest tip of the iceberg. It's the point on the tip. Most of you are probably better off not knowing any more.

I'm ok with this.  At least it doesn't waste a million or so tax payer dollars to go golf with Tiger Woods.  They should be applauding his frugal hobby.

I would say it means that it takes a lot less time to fill out a sports bracket than it does to fix the US economy.

2013-03-22 02:20:16 PM
The House GOP released a Web video hitting Obama on the issue. In it, the House GOP states, "The president's brackets are always on time. His budgets? Not so much."

So uhm...they take time away from working to put out a web video about Obama not working to make a bracket?
