This is, of course, why female realtors, caterers and interior designers have pimps

Since when do any of those jobs involve bodily contact, a vulnerable pose, and close quarters with only one way out? I'm just sharing with you what the experience has been in Hamburg and Amsterdam.

I May Be Crazy But...: Carlo Spicy-Wiener: Or, you know, they could legalize and regulate prostitution which has been shown to lower crime rates, increase tax revenue, and reduce the spread of STDs.  Of course, doing that doesn't give them the opportunity to tell these women how horrible they are for being prostitutes.  If it doesn't punish or demonize women, minorities, or the poor, then it's not much of a solution, right America?

Yes, this is a better solution than throwing them in jail, but only in the same way that telling your child that they're a terrible person and going to Hell for masturbating is better than beating them with a leather belt.

You know, I agree with you in principle. But if you actually read the article, they aren't browbeating women into going to church, they're helping scared, beaten drug addicts find a way to quit a dangerous and unpleasant job.

It's a dangerous and unpleasant job because of the criminal element involved due to existing laws. Again, if it were legalized, and women (and men, for that matter) could conduct their trade in a safe, clean and drug-free environment, wouldn't that make sense?

Not to mention the income generated by local governments from taxation and the reduced cost of law enforcement. But no, there's too much money involved by locking up some gal who's already playing a shiat hand from Life, and dumping more hardship on them to further ruin any potential chance to escape it.

ArcadianRefugee: FTA: Once a month, cops pick up women who they either know to be prostitutes or who are soliciting sex and bring them to

So, cops can just "pick up" people who have crimes in their past, even if they are not committing any at the time?

If they're on probation, and doing something suspected of violating it, yeah. Unfortunately, that's a pretty broad scope that the cops can base their judgement on.

ftfa:   1,000 prostitutes servicing the 2,000 trucks that cycled through every day.

um... let's do some math here...

it seems like a truck stop prostitute would do more than one 'servicing' a night/day.

there's usually one driver per truck. some of them are women. the trucks with two drivers are sometimes husband-and-wife teams, or the wife (or husband) just rides along.

1000 prostitutes service 2000 trucks every day.

i really doubt that's true, but if it is - damn, that's a lot of prostitute bangin'

oh, and fun fact: the Authorities know that there are currently many serial killers who are truck drivers who prey on 'lot lizards'. they don't know how many, or how prolific they are (as there are lots of places to dump a body on a 1500 mile run), but they know that there are many.

Well, if you're picking the right realtors, caterers, and interior designers...

When i first got to switzerland i was AMAZED at the ubiquitousness of prostitution. There are at least 3 red light areas here in zurich alone, and its really not even that big of a city.

The along the river sihl at night on the weekend when the weathers nice there are literally dozens of prostitutes from all over Europe who come here to earn swiss francs. Most of them are Bulgarian, Hungarian or from some other hell hole in eastern Europe. Theyre always young, and often very beautiful. Costs about 100 CHF for "ficken und blasen".

Switzerland, though not part of the EU, has made bilateral agreements with most of the EU's member states (basically, they've worked out individually agreements with the various countries to have the perks of EU membership without taking orders from Brussels), which means the women from these countries can come here and work for 90 days at a stretch.

So the prostitutes are like migratory birds. When the summer weather rolls in, they come here, work for 90 days, then leave. Its sort of the female equivalent of how US kids work for a summer in Alaska.

Sure they get exploited by the landlords they rent their temp housing from, and there is some trafficking and other problems associated with the sex trade, as there always is, but nowhere NEAR what its like elsewhere. As long as the women are registered with the authorites when they arrive, leave after 90 days, and don't deal drugs or whatever, its relatively transparent and safe. Rarely is there violence associated with them (though sometimes a gang of drunken men will go down to the areas where they walk the line and hassle and occasionally rape them, its monitored pretty tightly by the police and for the amount of ho'in and john'in going on its pretty ok). The authorities know theyre there, keep an eye on when the arrive and leave, make sure they get tested and checked, and protect them and their clientele from violence and other sorts of things which would disrupt the Swiss concept of order.

Indeed, this year theve set up little drive in sex boxes where you can park your car in privacy do your thing and not dirty up neighborhoods.

Overall, its sensible, it works, and I don't know why a similar model couldn't be adopted in the US in certain spots. Probably because it would cost public money and the Right would howl and say it was against jebus or something.

It's the whole country. Our political divide is basically urban vs. rural.

Lionel Mandrake: cops pick up women who they either know to be prostitutes or who are soliciting sex and bring them to the lot behind McDonald's, where PDI offers women 45 days of live-in treatment, including trauma, substance abuse, and mental-health counseling, as well as help navigating social services, finding housing, and securing a job.

Sounds like mollycoddling criminal moochers to me.  They made their choice, let them live with it.  We shouldn't be giving them handouts.  Ayn Rand would not approve.

~this is what American "Christians" actually believe.

I guess in your thorough reading of the article you missed the part where local churches are helping, without any proselytizing
