SultanofSchwing: TheRadicalNinja: Are people being serious when they call the Countach timeless?  Have you looked at one lately?  They're hideously dated looking.  Especially when they started tacking the gaudy wings and boxed out plastic fender flares on them.  If you wanted to show someone the epitome of 80s super car styling, you'd show them a Countach.  I would go so far as to say the cleaner design from the earlier ones made in the 70s looks more modern today, but that's not what most people think of when they think Countach.  Now the Miura, that's a car that has aged well.  I wouldn't turn down an Aventador though.

Yeah but Lamborghini has always been about balls to the wall and just being mental.  The LP500S is a beautiful car imo:

Diablo on the other hand, not a fan.

Well, ok but that doesn't make the design timeless, which is the point I was addressing.  Understand, I'm not downplaying the importance and influence of the Countach design, but the LP500S looks extremely dated.  I'm not even saying it doesn't look COOL, just not modern; it's frozen in time in the decade it was made.

Yeah that's a reasonable assessment sorry.  It definitely is an 80s car and like most things 80s...probably belongs best in that time lol.

Fuggin Bizzy: SultanofSchwing: This is why you should be required to take an advanced driving course before owning a vehicle like that...

This. I'm pretty good with my Corolla, so I'm sure I can drive a supercar at 100+ MPH. It doesn't look hard...

Negative... this is why everyone should be required to take advanced driving courses.  Just because your POS can't break 100 doesn't mean you won't need to know how to handle it in a slide, in an emergency stop, in a corner with wrong way traffic.  In extreme weather.

Far too many people drive very poorly.  They can barely keep control under typical circumstances, and completely lose their minds if anything actually happens.  Frankly, I think if you can't set a decent lap time in an f1 car, you shouldn't be allowed to drive at all.

As for morons buying super cars and wrecking them because they don't have the foggiest idea what 500+ horse power can do... it's a self correcting problem, really.

My car only has 450bhp and 425lb/ft of torque.  I have never touched anything with my car, except pavement.  (not a super car, still really powerful)

L'mours: SirEattonHogg: I know it's the car equivalent of "sharp knees", but I got to agree with the above posters.  The Murcielago isn't that interesting visually and for 220k, it damn well better be.

I personally love the old 1980's Countach.

The Countach is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. It's timeless and I love the how the name translates into english

....panty-dropper?

I am willing to concede that the American bumpers on the Countach are horribly tacky and ruin an otherwise great looking car.

Why not? F1 cars are "automatic" these days. The car can change gear faster than you can and lets you keep both hands on the wheel.

I would say that the owner of an auto Lambo would need both hands free just to search frantically for his microscopically tiny wiener.  Sure it's faster, but few of these cars get driven anyway so i doubt that is even a concern.

OK, the Gallardo comes optionally as a manual or an Estick (F1 style).

The Aventador does not, it comes with a 7 speed ISR (f1 style) transmission.

This happened in La Jolla. It's entirely possible the owner just abandoned the car, took a cab to the nearest exotic dealer and bought whatever super car they had on the floor at the moment.

I'm guessing they ran away from it so that someone would steal it and they could claim that the damage was from the theft and scam insurance.

Otherwise, why would you spend the money, mess up the car and then abandon the thing you owe $220k on?

Wasn't there a ring of people buying exotics in CA with fraud credit and such then shipping them to Asia and such? I'd bet dollars to strippers this is that sort of thing. If you steal from rich people, that is one thing, just get a better driver next time dbags.

Eh, they have an automatic clutch. Nobody is going to tell an F1 driver what gear he's supposed to be in. And you don't need to take your hands of the wheel, that's what paddles are for.

I throttle steered my dad's 67 vette around a corner totally by accident and it has less then half that power. shiat can get away from you pretty quickly

Was it one of those "restored-to-the-nines" Vettes? Just wondering if maybe you were the victim of bias ply tires there.

/Didn't matter that most sports cars didn't have power steering back in the day... you mostly steered with the throttle anyway!

No, it's a survivor.  He's the original owner.  I was learning how to drive stick, so I could take it to the prom.  Scared the hell out of me when it happened.

better not to get insurance involved.  then you're committing fraud, which is actually not that hard to prove when it's this obvious.  all you want is to beat the drunk driving charge.  wait a day, clean the blood stream.  then, come get the car.  explain nothing, do not dig your own grave.  take your hit for leaving the scene, maybe some property damage, and call your insurer on the car.  say you wrecked it.  don't lie.  it's a $220,000 claim.  it will be investigated.

It isn't an automatic, it is a paddle-operated manual.
"Automatic" implies that it has a torque converter.  Slushboxes are evil, paddles aren't.

Sounds like a good prank.  Have a party and invite some tool.  When he passes out,, take his car and steer it with Jhooks so you dont leave or wipe out his fingerprints...  when the cops show up, He will be drunk and
have his fingerprints all over the steering wheel.

Plus if you crash a modern car you will have airbag marks on the inside of your wrists. An airbag is an explosion. Your wrists took the blast before the bag itself restricted the impact.
