I suppose it's probably technically better in everything, but the Murciélago just doesn't have the style that the old Countach had.

The Murcielago is an ugly car with an ungainly name, an unfortunate blight on the otherwise fine pedigree of the Lamborghini marque.

The Aventador makes up for all those wrongs, as well.

I know it's the car equivalent of "sharp knees", but I got to agree with the above posters.  The Murcielago isn't that interesting visually and for 220k, it damn well better be.

I personally love the old 1980's Countach.

Same here... But just think, if these people managed to crash an electronically-nannied AWD Murc that quickly, they would have turned themselves into puddles of jello with a Countach.

Really? How are you going to explain the fact that you didn't notice your just-purchased-that-day Lamborghini was stolen until after it had been in the news for a couple days?

You would have to be very rich and own a lot of cars that you occasionally pay other people to buy for you if you want that to even pass muster.

The Gallardo is gorgeous, for a lot less dough, and fractionally reduced (usable) performance.  It doesn't have that bloated ass that the Murcie was cursed with.  Everything aft of that car's doors is blobby.

That is, until the police file their report with your insurance...and there are eye witnesses that spoke to the police identifying you fleeing the scene.  Let's see how fast the insurance denies your claim.

Unless you go with the obvious, which is they didn't have insurance on the vehicle, since they were so anxious to drive off the lot and celebrate their new investment...that will show nothing at the end of it.

I'm sure the dealership is on the phone with the purchasers, "You know, you still have to pay for it."

Tip from a friend: If you are drunk and crash your car near where you live do not walk home. Police will find the wreck, look up your address and then drive the route to your home looking for someone walking. Walk away from your home, go to a friends, go to a store and call a taxi.

/And best of all, don't drive drunk in the first place.

Exactly.  Plus with a car like that it doesn't "feel" like you are going as fast as you are.  From this quote from the article: "Witnesses said they saw the vehicle speeding on Interstate 5, before it flew off the La Jolla Village Drive exit and crashed into a wall"; it sounds like they misjudged their speed when they entered the off ramp and slammed into the side of it.

Love the Gallardo, basically just an Audi R8.  But the latest LP560-4 is fantastic, 550ish HP V10 with 4 wheel drive and much better weight distribution as a midengine than the Murcielago like you said (fat ass and all).  Also costs about half as much as a 5 year old Murcielago and probably 20x less likely to slam it into a guard rail after an hour.

This. Although the Aventador is a lot better looking than the Murcielago, the Gallardo always wins in the looks/usability department. It's so much tighter and athletic looking, and you can actually fit into a parking spot with one. If I had the means, I would definitely pick one up. It is so choice.

I also can't wait to see when the next generation of Gallardo-level car will be introduced to go along with the Aventador. I'm thinking the looks of a Sesto Elemento with some Veneno thrown in because, you know... Lamborghinis are supposed to look crazy.

The first problem is that most people these days have never driven a RWD or RWD biased AWD car before, never mind one that has over 600hp. I throttle steered my dad's 67 vette around a corner totally by accident and it has less then half that power. shiat can get away from you pretty quickly

i've always thought the job creators argument was the political equivalent of leaving an upper decker in someone's mind...

but, spending money on stupid shiat and destroying it does help everyone else out a little.  first off, and most importantly, shaudenfraude.

then, it helps the tow truck guy, the mechanics, the lawyers (who are great for the economy, because they blow through their money faster than lindsey lohan rails lines of coke after a court mandated NA meeting), and all sorts of other nobodies.

Yeah they absolutely had too much speed going into the turn and misjudged, likely pranged the rear tire off the curb and then overcompensated, slammed the front quarter into the rail/wall.  Once again, you should have to take an advanced driving course before owning anything with that kind of power.  Stupid stupid people with too much money.

Are people being serious when they call the Countach timeless?  Have you looked at one lately?  They're hideously dated looking.  Especially when they started tacking the gaudy wings and boxed out plastic fender flares on them.  If you wanted to show someone the epitome of 80s super car styling, you'd show them a Countach.  I would go so far as to say the cleaner design from the earlier ones made in the 70s looks more modern today, but that's not what most people think of when they think Countach.  Now the Miura, that's a car that has aged well.  I wouldn't turn down an Aventador though.

2013-03-21 01:19:19 PM
FTA: Police said there was no indication that the car had been stolen, but that they have not yet located its owners, and so it had been impounded.

Owners:  I want to report a stolen lambo that I just bought.  I parked it and when I came back, it was gone.  Oh, you have one?  Great.  What?  It's smashed up?  Did you catch the perps?  No?  Good, I mean good thing no one was hurt.  So Imma gonna file an insurance claim on this stolen vehicle...

Was it one of those "restored-to-the-nines" Vettes? Just wondering if maybe you were the victim of bias ply tires there.

/Didn't matter that most sports cars didn't have power steering back in the day... you mostly steered with the throttle anyway!

Not for changing gears, but to understand how much power you are actually sitting in front of, the weight distribution and so on and how to responsibly handle that.  So when you do decide to go off the handle, you don't end up kissing a wall.

The thing with the Countach is that it sort of epitomizes Lamborghini's ethos... crazy performance and crazy looks. It's not supposed to be as classy as a Ferrari. I kind of think of Ferruccio Lamborghini as the Carrol Shelby of Italy... a mechanically inclined farm guy who got into cars. Lambos are like a rich, crazy, Italian redneck-mobile.

I do prefer the Gallardo over any other Lambo that's ever been made, but hey... I'm always going to have a place in my dream garage for the big 3 of the '80s... 959, F40 and Countach.
