I thought the very first rule was you do not talk about high-dive club....

The Medical Examiner says Kunitomo died from cranial cerebral injuries due to a fall from a height.

But could not rule out the possibility that he was not brain damaged before attempting the dive.

It wasn't the fall that did him in, it was the sudden stop.

This almost happened to me. Spring Break in Daytona Beach way back in the day. Five of us jumped from the second floor balcony into the hotel pool. they weren't going to let me jump from the third floor because I barely cleared the side.

You'd have a better trajectory from the third floor than the second. Apparently your friends were too drunk to do simple algebra.

One of my childhood friends did the drunk diving thing at a neighbor's house when he was 15 or 16 and missed the pool.  I was across the street when it happened but I remember thinking it was taking the paramedics an awfully long time to do whatever it was they were doing.  He lived but is pretty badly brain damaged.  Has the mind of a 3-4 year old.  25 years later, his parents are gone and his brother takes care of him.  I guess when his brother gets tired of doing that, he'll become a ward of the state...

The lawsuits took years to work their way through the courts.

/would have been better for the paramedics to have just let him die

So was I. Luckily a fight broke out and nobody jumped from the third.

I knew a kid who fell off the high-dive and bonked his head on the deck. He wasn't allowed to smile for months.

You'd think that managing a big pool would be fun, what with all the bikinis and sunshine, but they must have had the ambulance on speed dial.

The Jackass series has done this nation no end of good. We really need to get that one going again, only without the warning labels.

That would leave no reason to do a high-dive.  If I couldn't talk about, I wouldn't waste my time trying.

Ruled an accident.  Time to push the spouse off the ledge and tell everyone she said she was going to jump in the pool.

Why?  Your horizontal velocity would take you that much closer to the center of the pool the higher up you go.
What does dipshiats in is being 20 feet from the pool and thinking their 6 foot standing broad jump turns into 25 just because they are 20 feet in the air..

I jumped from 10 meters while drunk at 3AM in college. I was smart enough to use the high-dive though.

Why would anyone want to be a high dive? That seems like a strange goal.

A simple case of "Hey y'all, hol ma beer and wutch this" Hawaiian style. Darwin never sleeps.

Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.

This guy did none of that.

Could have been worse.  He could have jumped out of a boat on the ocean and missed the water.

had something similar in my neighborhood.  don't think alcohol was involved, just diving into the shallow end, broken neck, paralysis, brain damage.
