I think some of that is camera work and also the scale on that thing is retarded.

It's pure camera angle trickery. Makes heavy (and effective!) use of the Hollow Face Illusion.

Totally showing the kids this when I get home, they are always making rollercoasters, nothing quite to this scale, but quite elaborate for a 10 and 12 yo and limited time.

/now only if they could apply their dedication to crafting to their homework.

I run a server for my kids, their friends, and kids of a co-worker of mine and their friends.  In many ways I see this as what we did by playing outside as kids--there's a lot of socialization going on, a lot of creative building, conflict resolution, and fantasy adventures.  Of course, it helps when they're all using microphones to chat in real time.  They do have to finish homework before playing, but I never would have thought the game would have these kind of legs a few years after it showed up, nor have the positive benefits I've observed.

And I fear what they'll build next after seeing this video.  Mostly because they'll chew up all the dang resources in the game (yeah, we adults play on the same server at night).

Right under the video it says:

This was done on the XBOX 360 in creative mode. We worked on it off and on for two months.

Still pretty cool, but I never really respect creative builds.  SMP is the only way for real cred.  You actually have to gather your resources and defend your build from creepers.

My 13 yo nephew has that problem. His parents had to cut him off from Minecraft for a while because he was starting to fail his classes - when he wasn't actively playing he was spending all his time watching Minecraft videos on youtube instead.

I'd be more impressed if it was done in Survival.

Actually, scratch that, I'd be sad.

I made this a long time ago by digging all my resources up by hand. With all the new crafting mats and so on, I might have to create another one sometime.

I didn't make it that far in, I was too disturbed by the dubstep bastardization of the theme music and had to run off in search of some ear bleach.

Finished the hull, each and every deck, and found people to build just about ever other ship to boot...

I've been hosting several Minecraft servers for a couple years now.  One of the servers is in creative mode, and players are free to build to their imaginations' limits.  Some of the crazy stuff they've built over the years has blown my mind.  We also have a Mega-Project server that is dedicated to one giant building project.  Currently, that project is Middle-Earth.  We've got most of the Shire done, and plan to spread out from there.  It's all being built in 1:1.  But most people spend their time on the primary Survival server, or our new Tekkit server (or the Mo Creatures server [damn, I have too many servers going]).  So it's a slow process.

Also, build a server dedicated to just Spleef.  It can be a fun game when you get several people involved.  We now have a team tournemant going.

The parts of the music that weren't the horrible dubstep screeching and repeating were actually decent. I enjoyed those parts.

As for the creation, wow. That was fun to watch. I also found it enjoyable to try and determine my orientation. The amount of effort involved in not only building it but turning the camera views at the right time to show off what they did was excellent.
