Goodnight, funnyman.

Even without the porn star past, I'm not sure I would buy real estate from a guy named Harry Reems.

I saw it in college in the eighties.  I'm sure it was shocking for the time, but otherwise you're not really missing anything.

Harry Reems was the only guy I actually enjoyed seeing in a porn film. He always appeared to be having a good time, and didn't take himself too seriously.

In the movie, was he wearing a Masonic ring?

Just what I was thinking when I saw the headline.  He always seemed to have a "they're paying me for this?" look of glee in his eyes.

RIP...

you're right. people were losing their shiat at the time of its release because a woman deepthroats a 5-inch dick. Linda Lovelace was practically a household name. Today there are 1000's of movies with girls deepthroating 8-, 9-, 10-inch dicks and relatively nothing is said about any of them.

It was the first porno to go mainstream. Feminists hailed it as a hallmark of womens sexual liberation.

The 70's kicked ass, basically.

I wonder what they* say now that Lovelace claims that she was forced to do the film "at gunpoint" and that it is basically a film of her being raped?  Very sad if it's true, but of course she is an Evangelical Christian now and they lie like you wouldn't believe about things like this.

* caveat: "feminists" encompasses millions of women with widely varying opinions about sex and pornography, do not taunt happy fun ball.

They uncover that in the film. It was really Marilyn Chambers that made the clean lawn fashionable.

It's not too bad if you're ONLY watching for the comedy and story. Has some rather amusing parts, and some catchy music. I own it on DVD, and bought the soundtrack album back in the early 1980's...

Inside Deep Throat is a pretty good documentary about the film. Harry Reems was pretty much credited (by the documentary) with making the film watchable with his sense of humor and infectious personality. Otherwise, it would have been another blue film known for a woman who could 'deep throat' a polish sausage.

I watched the documentary on Deep Throat. The director said what made Reems so good and in demand was his ability to get it up at will. He said that Reems loved the camera and to get him hard all you had to do was turn the camera on.

Counterpoint:

In 1976, she was chosen to play the title role in the erotic movie Laure. However, according to the producer Ovidio G. Assonitis, Lovelace was, "very much on drugs" at the time. She had already signed for the part when she decided that "God had changed her life," refused to do any nudity, and even objected to a statue of the Venus de Milo on the set because of its exposed breasts. She was replaced by French actress Annie Belle.[8]
