It's about 20 seconds of animation, subby.

I somehow suspect that the days I spent reading Calvin & Hobbes won't be undone or ruined or whatever.

2013-03-20 05:55:52 PM
It was too devoid of content to either please me or "destroy my chiIdhood". Thus, I choose:

C) Give this a resounding "meh", and forget about it almost immediately.

2013-03-20 05:59:35 PM
And I think Watterson has already said he likes this.  I don't remember where I saw that. Something about him really liking animation and this being done by a friend or a friend's cousin or something.

2013-03-20 06:25:15 PM
Oh good, someone else ripping off Watterson instead of creating their own original work.

what's with the lifeless eyes of Hobbes?  That is stupid too.  Geesh, can't even copy correctly.

I'm glad neither spoke. That may have ruined it for me.

It looks like the animator took existing frames from the comics, and just animated steps between them, so not that hard to pull off without screwing up the characters.

Still good, though.

I'm glad there was no speaking.

That would be the only thing that could ruin it for me.

Very much so. Like the last 3 Wheel of Time books, it's screamingly obvious where the original author left off and the hack impersonator picked up.

Meh.

Where they at least 400 pages too long though? It wouldn't be the wheel of time otherwise.

I don't think Watterson can do anything if it's just fan art for no compensation.

/doesn't hurt to make that clear in the credits

A. He is a dick about everything. All he wants is attention.

B. I forgot I had him on ignore. No wonder threads seem at least 20-30% more intelligent these days.

Watterson wasn't the one who shut down the C&H photoshopped into real life photos blog, it was his publisher who did so without asking him "Is this OK with you?"

GooberMcFly: Where's the peeing?  Calvin's always peeing!

and now we're picturing Calvin taking a huge leak onto a tree and being pounced by Hobbes halfway through.  Urine flies everywhere, Hobbes realizes his mistake a moment too late..

Except, of course, Hobbes is only real to Calvin-to everybody else, it's Calvin being so ADHD that he can't even take a piss without slamming himself around.  And now he's pissed all over Hobbes.

Oh yes, compared to some of the truly sick C&H fanfics out there, this was NOTHING.

A penis.  For God/allah/FSM/Odin/Buddh/Whoeverthefarkyouwant's sake it's penis.  A dick brings pleasure wherever it goes.  A penis does not.  A penis is too small and shriveled to accomplish anything.  Please for whatever diety or tree or whatever the fark it is you pray to, worship or fap to make sure you use the insult penis in lieu of dick.

That was pretty nice.  I think it shows Calvin & Hobbes could easily work as a cartoon, if anyone had any doubts.  Someone competent with talent could do it justice - then get fired and replaced by someone who half-asses it.  It's an imperfect world.

If this becomes a legit thing I will watch it and then decide.

These little clips do nothing but make me wax nostalgic.

I too would like to see some 'great' comic strips, if the measuring stick is that C&H was just 'good'.

Keep reading.  I'm not sure why whistle doesn't like Sanderson's writing - but I know many fans of the WoT series, and all of them have been very pleased if not utterly thrilled by the final books.  To quote one of my friends, "He gave me Rand back."

What that means I have no idea.  I'm not a WoT fan - I never made it past book three of the series.  I think it is because I started reading them years after they were released - and by the time I read them, the entire story had become Troped to death by other writers.

But when I see a guy that has loved WoT since he was a child overjoyed at the ending of the series?  When another friend who begged me to get Sanderson's autograph when I headed to Dragon Con because, "He finished my childhood story for me."?  Yeah, I can't think EVERYONE thinks Sanderson sucked.

In fact, I keep threatening to have him sign my first edition of Game of Thrones.  I figure he may have to finish that series as well...

I seem to remember that in an interview, Martin said that the HBO series is motivating him to write faster.  Of course, nobody wants him to deliver a disappointing finale, but the last thing he wants is for the TV show to overtake the books.
