We could just import some radioactive wasps from Washington State. There might already be a trade agreement in place. And I know Fukushima already has plenty of packs of radioactive dogs roaming around.

Just a few that pop to mind...

Ability to hear much higher pitches
Ability to see into the UV end of the spectrum
Ability to flex your skeleton in order to squish through opens large enough to fit your skull
Sense of smell equal to or superior to a dogs
Self-sharpening teeth capable of chewing through soft steel
Empathetic sense (maybe Counsellor Troi had some rat genes?)
The ability to leap several times your own body length, without a running start

Speaking of radioactive cats - you may wind up with one if you have your cat treated for hypothyroidism.
I had a cat with this problem, and the vet gave me a couple of options. One treatment consists of giving the cat a pill once a day for the rest of its life. Since giving a pill to a cat can be a real pain in the ass, there is a second option.

This is to have the vet give the cat a dose of a radioactive isotope of Iodine. The Iodine goes straight to the cat's overactive thyroid and nukes it from within. No more treatments are needed, The radioactivity is then eliminated in the cat's poop.

The problem is that you now have to collect the cat's "hot" poop and take it back to the vet for proper disposal, You cannot just stick this poop in the trash. Many municipal waste treatment ops have a radiation detector that will go off and the plant has to be shut down while the trash men rummage through the pile looking for the source of the radiation, Needless to say, it get expensive and the trash guys will actually go looking for discarded envelopes with the cat poop so they can send the cleanup bill to the cat;s owner.

I've had several over the years.  They're extremely intelligent and capable of meta-thought (thinking about thinking) which we've really only seen in us, dolphins, and some primates, until them.

These are just the ones you could have without too much of a change in appearance.  Adding a tail would give huge boosts to balancing, not to mention being able to "grip" things for support, and it works like a heatsink.  Whiskers improve the sense of smell (and theirs can actually "whisk" unlike a cat or a dog), and also incredibly sensitive to touch and vibrations, giving them the ability to feel airflows and have a general picture of their surroundings, even when blind.  Warm fur...sharp claws suited to burrowing or climbing.

They're incredible little animals.

Very true.

Someone just posted this on the "Wild Rats" group on Facebook a few minutes ago:

How is this for intelligence? I have a bird table on my garden which the rats cannot get on, I would not mind myself but I have the misfortune to live next to people! Today a brown rat paid me a visit, he knew he could not get to the table, he then climbed up a hedge several times and then discovered one branch in particular would with his weight on it take him to the table, like a lift! After stuffing his face he would jump into the hedge, then pop back later for a refill remembering without hesitation which branch it was! I tried to get a photo but my camera zoom was just not good enough :( such brilliant little animals , no wonder they constantly outwit humans :)

Sheesh.

That's just 40-K and relevant only because we commonly eat those "sources."
Your total dose from food (potatoes, brazil nuts, etc) per year is on average ~40 mrem, which
is less than ~1/8 of your typical dose per year of ~360 mrem from all sources (radon from
the ground, medical&dental X-rays, etc)...

FWIW (and this is not a reply directly to you), this rat was nothing more than an electrical short.
Nothing radioactive about the little guy at all necessarily. The same thing happened at the
RHIC accelerator complex last year, when a rodent got into a power supply and ended
his little life by very temporarily carrying a boatload of current.
Rodents do this. When i was living in the (Houston) city proper, squirrels shorted out
transformers on electrical poles twice in my neighborhood in as many years. BANG.

You'd think the neighboring squirrels would tell their friends to stay the fark away
from those gray things on the creosote-coated poles... cheers

Rats have incredibly fast life cycles relative to humans.

Radiation that isn't immediately fatal punches holes in DNA, causing microscopic injuries one cell at a time that eventually become cancerous tumors.

Because of their short life cycle, rats are basically immune to this kind of damage as they die of old age or misadventure around the same time the radiation tumors would be starting to become problematic.

Heh.  Many Maryland and DC residents have the misfortune to be 'served' by Potomac Electric Power Co. (PepCo).  Understand that PepCo's service is so bad that even though it is a regional company, it was a serious contender for 'Most Hated Company in America' back in 2011 or 2012.

We joke about them having thousands of customers out because of sunshine, or their transformers being taken out by 'Squirrel-Qaeda' terrorists.
