octopied: Well, carp. I guess I shouldn't have replaced my hand with a chainsaw already.
Pawprint: We're not supposed to call it the Ukraine anymore, subby./But I gotta admit, "I'm from Ukraine" just sounds weird.
MBooda: What about my eggs, dear?/they're in...everybody's eggs
Huggermugger: I've done this in the past. The eggs can be gorgeous, but I never could get my wax applied meticulously enough that my eggs looked as beautiful.
Lady Indica: A hungarian book I read as a kid also featured this type of egg decorating. It was very elaborate and done with bees wax, where you'd dye and then scrape off the wax and make complex patterns.I found the book again a few years back via the wonders of the internet, was by this author: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kate_Seredy Makes me wonder if they have a similar basis (eggs in Ukraine and Hungary) especially since there was a mongol connection there too (though IIRC the Magyar think they're decendants of the Huns)
